Hey you guys...welll the title pretty much says it all. Ive been searching the threads and found some helpful and some not so helpful information. Im looking to get 4.10's in my 2000gt. I kno i have to buy a ring and pinion set for about 180 bux...but what else will i need to buy. My car is completely stock now so this will be my first mod. A small list would be great thanks!

i m a bit confused myself. i just got my ford 3.73 gears for christmas. i thought all you need was what the kit came with, but on this site i heard you need some kind of bearings, and somthing else, i forget. my kit did come with two other small parts, one is like a ring you would wear only too big, and bolt of some sort.

anyone else?

You don't necessarily NEED bearings. If you don't have a problem with them already and you have relatively low miles, there is no point in changing the bearings. I'll tell you straight out what happened when I got my gears installed:

I bought FRPP gears and since they are made at the same plant as your OEM gears, they have the same tolerances. The guy swapped all my shims and the pinion bearing over to the new gears and put them back in. They were perfect.

in a 2000 you might as well get the bearing kit, you will regret it later if you dont. Most competent mechanics will be honest with you when they have your rearend apart as to what extra parts you should get, but they will only tell you if you ask them to check.

I reused all of my factory hardware as well. Even the bolts that came with the installation kit I bought werent even as good as the OEM stuff.. No leaks/vibration...

My buddy did a gear swap on his 01 though and the pinion bearing didn't survive removal. That f'er was certified STUCK. I'd be prepared to need one just in case.

Go to www.ratechmfg.com They have a complete install kit which includes all bearings and shims for an internet special 59.99. The same kit retails from Ford at 119.99. I got mine delivered last week. You will also need a SpeedCal to adjust your speedometer unless you're getting a custom tune. Also, two quarts of gear oil and some friction modifier for your posi clutches.
