well i just installed a vortech v-2 sq s-trim and i have been have some trouble with the car. well detination is the first. I reduced the timing to about +10 tdc from 17 degrees. I also attempted to hook up the btm (boost/timing master) and i think i installed it correctly but i took my car out for a spin and was in third gear. i got on it and at about 5 grand the car began to detonate. i immediatley let off of the gas. about a second after that there was a loud clanking noise. not like a lifter or something. it didnt sound internal, i think. my friend thinks its an exhaust gasket leak. looking at the motor from the front it is coming form the left rear. near the number 4 cylinder. I just want some ideas of what it could be and is to safe to drive to a repair center. thanks

Well you could say its a clicking noise. but it is fairly loud not like a lifter. the car is not stock by far. 9.75:1 cr. gt40 intake. trickflow twistedwedge heads. 347 stroker kit. bbk headers. if it was clicking what would it be. kinda hard to explain without hearing it. :bang:

Take a pipe and put it up to the valve cover to try to hear exactly where the noise is coming from. If it were me, I would pull the valve cover and check it out, it could be a bad lifter also, like you said its hard to diagnose without hearing it. Do you have hardened push rods? Stock pushrods can bend fairly easy under high RPM. If everything looks okay under the valve cover, than I'd throw a new header gasket on and go from there.
