stock head question

how can i plug the back of the heads where the smog pump tube enters if i remember correctly there is a certain size bolt thet fits on these holes if so what size and thread pitch or how would you recomend plugging the heads. oh its on an 89 302 ho

There actually is a plug available from Ford for it, but I don't remember the part number, maybe someone else on here does. But what I did to plug the hole was take the piece that was originally bolted into the holes and cut the tube off off them and bolt them back up to the head fliped over with sealer on them and the one bolt holding it in. This worked fine for me and has been leak free for years.

they are themactor plugs, you already have a pair on the "front" of the heads holding the long bolts for the accessory brackets..... and i say "front" because the heads are symmetrical and it doesnt matter which way they go on....

Thermactor plugs will work but........

Usually there is a lot of carbon build up and it can sometimes be hard to get the threads started. I just left the tube on the back of the heads hooked up and unscrewed the big silver valve from it. The went to Home Depot and bought a 3/4" brass (garden hose) block off cap. Works like a champ!

thanks guys i appreciate it and i also relaize since the front of the heads have plugs i can probably take them out of my old motor and slap them in the back

F4ZZ-6EO86-A is the Ford part number for the insert. I think you'll find the old ones are VERY difficult to remove.
