BS or what?

Here's what the salesperson at the local dealer told me after I got them to agree to see me a 'stang GT on x-plan. Is this BS to get me to order right away or is this the straight scoop?

"As soon as you decide at the Auto Show what you want - if I were you I would order at that time and not much longer. Right now Ford is behind 5000 units of the GT Mustang and not catching up very quickly. Also the Convertibles are not even released as of yet. So the sooner you put your order in the better for you. As it stands now you might be waiting until Summer for one anyway. But if you wait until Spring to order, you might not get it until Dec 05. So just let me know. I really hope we can earn your business. Even if you order it and things don't work out, I am sure we could sell it to someone else. But it is better to order and get one than not.
If you did not know, at Dave Knapp we have free loaner cars for our customers any time you bring in your new mustang for service. We will also wash it every time you are here for service and give you $5 off all your oil changes on your new car for as long as you own it. We try really hard to make our customers happy and comfortable.
Please contact me when you are ready."

Thanks in advance for your opinion. :nice:

I can believe that the Factory is behind on the GT's. The demand is much greater than anticipated. The V6's aren't selling as well as they had thought it would. That is probably why there are so many V6's at the dealer lots and very few, if any GT's.

I believe I read last night or tonight that the Mustangs are in the Feb to March Delivery. All GT's and V6's are on IUP hold now, I believe. Remember that Ford has been having commodity issues with the IUP's and Spoilers. I would order now if you plan to get by late Feb to Early April.

These are just my thoughts. If you do indeed want a Mustag, particulary a GT, I suggest you order now!

What specs(options, color, tranny etc...) do you plan on having on your order?

It's so hard to know when a dealer is BS-ing you but my bet is their stretching the truth a bit. We know that the '05 is wildly popular and there is more demand than supply right now, but they've built something in the neighborhood of 40,000 Mustangs since 9/7/04 and early on they weren't even running at max capacity. Also, I've heard of people ordering in December and getting January build dates. I'd talk to a couple of other dealers and see what they have to say. You might also pose your question on Brad Barnett's site as their are a couple if AAI employees that are members and seem to be pretty straight up about what's going in production.

all BS - like he would know. Ask him his source so you can verify then watch him squirm. You order a GT you will get one in about 8 weeks. Make sure you get an order number so you will know they actually placed an order.

I have to agree with Shelbyman, I would say some of what the dealer told you is right , just a little stretch of the truth. My experiene was this, ordered my 05 Torch red 5spd GT IUP, premium interior, with spoiler, Nov2, build date, Dec. 06, VIN number, delivered Dec 24 to central Fla, picked her up Dec 28, cant stop driving her, cant stop thinking about driving her.

About 2 months total, which seams to be about the average of what eveyone else has had, but now I'm hearing about the IUP hold up so I guess there must be some truth there. Just be ready for a long wait and know it will be soo worth it to get exactly what you want.

I pulled my window sticker out of my glove box and looked at it and saw my name on it. I have to say I thought that was so dam cool to have my name on the window sticker, I have never seen that before and most likely never will again, it makes you feel real special to know the car was built just for you, not like the other cars that are already on the lot.

I think your dealer may be stretching the truth about waiting till next December. However, I can pretty much guarantee that if you want a GT with the IUP you had better be ready for a delay. Check my other thread for some examples. I ordered the first of November and don't even have a build date yet (and I am a priority 10). I don't expect to see the car till February. There are guys in the same boat that ordered in September!
After the new year Ford will gear up production and sales will cool off some, so the delays will minimize. I am hoping the Detroit Auto Show will give us some info on the new Boss/Mach. If it lives up to all the hype (5.4 NA w/370 HP) I'll let my GT go and wait till they hit production.
My guess is that if you order in the next couple of weeks you should have your car by mid-April, but don't believe anyone that tells you 6-8 weeks. :bs:

Dang Wsmatau I cant believe you ordered yours first of Nov and still dont have a build date!! That seams way too long to me! I guess I just got lucky and got mine a litle ahead of the IUP delay or something. I ordered mine Nov 02 and have mine now so somewhere yours must have hit the holiday delay and then some.

I dont know what any of you guys have seen about SE Mustangs like the Mach or Boss, but the only thing I have seen definite from Ford is there will be an 07 Cobra in 06, but not much details about it yet anyway, just speculation.

99? Uh, you better hope not. Check with your dealer and ask him what priority number you are now. If its 99 then have him give you a lower number. If he says he cant then cancel your order and go elsewhere. Your dealer assigns the priority number. If you arent between 10-20 then you are going to be waiting a long time. I have been a 26 for about 7-8 weeks and still no VIN. Dont wait like I have. I am one of the guys that ordered in September. I have done all I can to get a lower priority number(I started at 99) but my dealer is lame. (I am putting it nicely)

Good luck.

Actually, not to spur the panic, but I am almost willing to bet that the demand gets worse before the supply gets better. In the beginning it has been mostly the core stang enthusiasts that have been driving the sales, but as more and more of the general public sees these things, I think there will be even more demand from those who had never even considered a mustang before. Assuming there are no major reliability/recall issues. Just my opinion.

man i was sure i was getting hosed :nonono: just didnt think i would have to wait that long. i'll try another dealer who is serious about really getting me one by spring :bang: thanks for the info :nice:

Thanks for all of your advice. :nice:

I haven't decided if I want Mineral Grey or Black - GT Premium, stock wheels, red leather IUP - and that's about it. I may want the convertible once I see it at the Detroit show. Before I buy one I would want to have sold my 95 GT Convertible and a lot we own in a subdivision near Lansing. I thought it was interesting that the dealer would tell me to order it and if I don't have all my ducks in a row - don't buy it. I guess they wouldn't have to worry about selling it to someone else.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!
