I've always put it in overdrive on all the cars i've driven.
I was talking to my dad today. He told me that they say its better to put it in drive for city driving and overdrive for highways or fast roads.

So what should i do?
I want to keep the lil a4ld alive as long as i can. It probably doesnt matter though.

Also, does it hurt an auto to manually shift through the gears?

OD unless you are pulling up mountains and stuff and the tranny Downshifts alot, No it doesnt hurt it to manually shift it just dont run it up into high rpms, its ok with manuals, but autos just dont like it.

My brother had a 91z28 camero...and he drove it n od everywhere and it ended up destroying the trans.

the tech said with manual od put it in od above 35 cause it puts alot of wear and tear on the trans

Leave it in OD. It won't drop into OD until you reach a high enough speed anyway. It will lower your RPM and reduce wear on the engine. If it shifts in and out a lot you can drop her into 'D' if you want - but it's just performing the way it's designed to.

I only wish my 'pre-OD' car had OD. My '82 cruises at 2,000 RPM where the '00 runs at 1,200 RPM.
