My stang has no catalytics so I cannot pass NY inspection. A local muffler shop said that a 93 stang GT requires 4 catalytics to pass and it will cost $400 to do the job!!
1. Is this true? (if not please clarify)

2. Is there anyone in the syracuse or binghamton area who can hook up an inspection (my #1 choice...i LOVE the sound now without cats!)

get some high flow cats from summit, i think they are made by dynomax, and weld em on. I have a pair sittin in my garage cause i thought i would fail and i didnt   funny thing is, the guy who was doing the inspection couldnt stop talking about my car and didnt notice that you couldnt even breathe in the freakin place! he might have pulled a fast one..thanks man

I'm from the Syracuse area. I have a guy up in Central Square who MAY pass it if we keep our mouths shut. Leaving for Vegas this week be back on the 23rd. Could try helping you then. Every car I brought he asked me if the cats are there, e-brake work ect, ect. Car never leaves the ground. Checks lights, gas cap, and horn. LOL :D He charges $40-$50

i have a 89 and they only came with two cats do yer self a favor and go buy a used hpipe fom a junkyard put it on and youll pass as long as the rest of the cars up to par

cool thanks for the info. Yeah let me know if you pass with 2 cats.

also, berubany, i will definately think of taking you up on that offer. Ive had many guys fall through, so if he is solid ill prolly go that route. im still in florida until early may, but if i still cant find a guy expect a PM haha. thanks

I have a mac H-pipe w/ 2 cats that im about to take to inspection, but a friend has the same pipe with practically the same mods and he went through cleaner then a stock h-pipe. so it should be no problem

87-93.. and even to 2004 it's 4 cats. Some SN95's have 6.

But a replacement like the Magnaflow or others with two cats carry a CARB #, and are fully 50 state legal. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't pass.

To the OP, a lot of people just throw on a factory H pipe when inspection rolls around, and then switch it back out afterwards. I'll probably do this here in NH since I'm throwing on a Bassani OR X, and it's getting harder to find someone who will do it. It's a PITA that day, but worth it IMO for being able to run the OR the rest of the year.

Instead of borrowing my buddies factory H, I might just pick up one of those Catco SS direct replacements for $250 from Summit and use that each year.
