Brown Santa (UPS) came today and dropped off some new toys for me to play with.

Just like Christmas morning! :D

Shiny new ceramic coated BBK longtubes! Man these look nice! At first I almost thought they screwed up and sent me chrome ones. I did NOT expect ceramic to look so...metal like...shiny  A far cry from the craptastic looking stockers.

And for the record (summit tech support told me otherwise) they DO come with EGR and O2 bung holes.

Other than their tech support's lack of product knowledge, I'm pretty satisfied with Summit. Fair prices, got my order right, fairly promt delivery...they even threw in a free hat! :nice:

I have a couple questions/concerns though.
This is the stock header bolt compared to the new one:

Notice that the new ones are about a 1/4" shorter than the stockers. Will this be a problem? you can see how far it sticks through the flange...will this be sufficient, or should I go buy soem than are as long as the stock bolts?

Also, The instructions say I should use some gasket sealer such as "ultra copper". I already have a tube of red (high-temp) RTV...is this pretty much the same stuff? If not, where can I get "ultra-copper"...any old parts store?

header bolts i got with my mac LTs looked longer than those....that ceramic coat looks sweet!

I never used any gasket sealer on my install, never had any leaks.

RTV red is fine. Just be careful and not use too much. As for the bolt I can say for a fact they will work. I have BBKs. I can also state for a fact that they suck!!! They like to back out. There are a couple good header bolt companies out there.

I was thinking about using lockwashers, but after seeing how short the bolts are, I don't know if I can spare another 1/16".

I was also thinking about going to a hardware store and picking up some stock-length bolts, but with the smaller heads on them so they will work with the BBK headers. Is there something special about header bolts (like high temp rating  )? or can I use any bolt that fits?

stuff looks good, i'll give you $5 for that hat (do you get one with every order or do you have to spend $xxx)

Im not sure...they sent me one when I bought a Ford Racing Parts catalog (for $5) a couple years ago. Anywhoo...the hat only costs like $3.99 on their website.

You can use any bolt however header bolts have a smaller head to give you more room between the the head or the bolt and the header tube.

I just bent the oil dipstick holder bracket to go over the header to the bolt. Doesn't touch the header tube. It is tough to get a wrench under the bracket and to hold the bracket to tighten down the bolt though. It is doable though.

I just finished the same LT install on my 94 CObra. Got some pretty good pics of um on the page in my sig.

The bolts are fine. I ended up using the ones they sent me. The ones you have. I put the headers in, tightened um up, then I drove it for a day. The next morning I checked them all, and they were fine. I did this every few days for about 350 miles now. They haven't come loose at all.

I used the Felpro 1415 gaskets, and no sealer. There was no need. Just tighten the bolts evenly. Make sure you get all the old remains of the factory gaskets off. A razor blade works great here. The dipstick, I just bent it up a little, and made a new home for it closer to the strut tower. I made a bracket myself, just get creative. You'll come up with something.

I'll give you the same tip I gave everyone else. Put the bubble wrap back on the headers. Just leave it off the flange. This way, when you are putting them in, you don't have to be as careful not to ding them up. You don't want to ruin that shiny coating DO YOU??? The passenger side poses a small challenge. When you get the motor jacked up a little, its gonna look like you want to send the collector between the firewall and the starter. NOOOO. Go under the starter. It won't look right, but it is. You may have to remove your TB to get some room though. I bought a nice heat wrap kit for my starter for 30 bucks. They say you don't need it, but I like to go that extra mile.

I also had some trouble getting the EGR tube back on. I just cut an inch out of it, put a high temp hose in there temporarily, and went up to the local exhaust shop. He welded in a new piece for 20 bucks. I wrapped it in some left over heat wrap to make it look perty.

Otherwise, let us know how it goes. New toys are always a lot of fun. I sit here just thinking of things to do sometimes. Too bad this stuff is so expensive. Have fun with it....................LT

I gotta throw a pitch about the gaskets. Don't bother witht the ones they sent you, throw them away now, before you put them on, bolts loosen up and they blow out. Get a set a quality gaskets, I picked up Percy's soft aluminum, work great. As for the bolts, like mentioned before get some allen heads. These give yo some options when installing, in my experieince, there are a few spots where it is just easier to use an allen head/wrench, then a socket. good luck man, and get new gaskets

RTV red worked for me too.

Ive had a prob w/ my bolts backing out of my BBK headers as well so Im not going to run any gasket and just use the RVT as well. Hopefully that will solve the prob of the bolts wanting to back out or actually falling out.
