Can I Boost It!

Okay guys...

I'm running 10.5-11:1 compression on a DSS 331 Pro Bullet Short Block, AFR 165's, 58cc stud mount heads and a Holley SysteMax II intake system.

The car puts down 324 HP to the wheels but of course is not enough. I was either thinking of a 150 shot or making some boost via supercharger or turbo.

Can I supercharge or turbocharge with that high of compression? If so, what's the maximum boost, 10 psi. What kind of power will it make.

Thanks guys in advance for your help.

If you were to boost it, I would run a small shot of nitrous, such as a 75 shot to keep the temperatures down. That is alot of compression for boost. I would just spray a 200 shot. It will make you suffice. Make sure you get a good tune before you go out and jump on the gas.

If you boost it...I doubt you could crest more then say, 8-10 lbs on pump gas and that is only with a GOOD intercooler. But you would make great power, just stick with a centrifugal, and you should be ok, they run coolest. Just my .02

You could go with a custom cam to help bleed some of the cylinder pressure down, it will hurt power a little but be safer especially on pump gas.

You could also port the chambers to lower the static compression ratio down with out hurting flame travel.

In the new MM&FF they ran a 12.0:1 compression 5.4 on 10 lbs of boost If I remember right. And it made impressive #'s but that on race gas. You can boost your motor no doubt. But do you wanna be shellin out money for race gas every time you fill up.

FYI they were using c16 race gas. Dont think you can get that at the pumps though.

almost $7.00/gal

You can do it with a blower, just get a basic A trim and a timing master and keep it around 5-6psi and love it. The compression makes for a very flat torque curve with a mild cam. My combo worked exceptionally well.

Doing some bowl work on the heads I don't think is to entirely expensive (lowering the compression to help out)...but it would be like removing/installing heads again...or you could go with some different pistons (which the price in itself isn't bad) but the work to get there can be...if your doing it yourself of course...

I want a supercharger :hail2:

Everyone keeps mentioning a small blower, we all know the small blower is TOO SMALL for that combo. It need's an S-Trim, P1SC or Novi 2000 min or IMO he is wasting his money.

just lower the compression and run more boost. I think on pump gas, with that high compression, you are certainly playing right on the verge of dangerous. I'd recommend building it up the safe way, but I've never been one to live dangerously.

Everyone has posted great recommendations, but I haven't seen many that are sustainable. Like running race fuel or methanol. Also adding spray to cool it. These are things that add cost over time.

Get your pistons modified to drop compression down to the 9.5 range, then add 6-9psi through an intercooler. Should run with good maintanence as long as you need it. You may not see HUGE hp increase, but I'd put you well into the 400+ rwhp. Conservatively, I'd say in that range, 405 at peak.

At that point, tearing down the block to put lower compression pistons in it for a peak of approximately 405 RWHP is not all that great, considering the cost.

Like a few other guys said, and what I was considering as another option, would be to just spray it and just absorb the cost of filling the bottle. I've been told I can safely run a 125 shot and jet for a 200 shot when at the track. I've been looking at nitrous kits since getting the bad news from a lot of the replies and they are fairly cheap. I'll do the install myself and have the local Mustang shop and NMRA Pure Street driver tune it for me.

My goal was for 450 RWHP, whether it's spray or boost, I guess I don't care at this point. Thanks again for all the help guys!
