So I want to replace my stock cooling fan with an electric one. My car usually runs pretty cool. I see that the local parts stoor sells universal ones gor about 40$. If I go through ex. summit and get one made for my car its between 150 and 250. Does anyone think that the universal one would work ok or just go with the one made for my car? I didn't catch the dia. of the cheaper onje.

yeah, i would not hold my breath on a fan that is so cheap. i dont mind trying cheap parts when they DON'T matter. but if a fan leaves you high and dry, that sucks.

some folks like nice new aftermarket fans - that is great. i also like the used J/Y fan route myself - 'cuz' i'm poor. oem fans are generally good quality so finding one cheap is great. i think even if i wanted a new fan, i would get a new OEM fan (Mk 8 or Viper fan for 150-ish).

but if you have XXX dollars to spend (say 150-200), i would rather get a J/Y (even get a spare if they are 20-30 bucks) and then use the saved money to get a variable controller from Mr Baskin.

good luck.

i agree with ya. i bet you could get away with a cheapie if you run some real nice radiator, where the fan barely cycles anyhow. i am a bit biased - i live in the desert and it is 90+* today and fans are crucial.

but if the cheapie goes south or does not cut it, you will simply be out that money and then more for a better fan. just does not seem like good odds to me. FWIW, you can also get replacement motors for many OEM fans, so if the motor dies, you can either get a whole new J/Y fan or get a new motor.

good luck.

go the the junk yard and get a fan from a 1996 taurus. 10$ been using it 3 years with no problem. Its also a two speed fan.

What motor did the Taurus have? Do you know what years heave the same fan?

I would love to do this for my stroker motor!
I have alot of faith in Ford reliability. Especially considering the price.

I bought one of those cheap aftermarket units. Almost cost me a motor when it stopped working in traffic in the heat of summer. It was three weeks old. Parts store replaced for free. That one didn't last any longer. POS I say. Black Magic fan now......no more problems.
