My boss bought a new 05 Saleen (not supercharged), drove it last night. I wasn't allowed to take it over 4 grand due to break-in but I gotta say I wasn't that impressed at all with the performance vs. my '01 Cobra. I gotta admit it looks great though. Very solid and the seats were GREAT vs. mine along with most of the interior. Wasn't too keen on the design of the 20" wheels though, anyone else driven/ own one of these? Any thoughts?

No way in hell would I pay 44 large for one of those things. They look OK but who in their right mind wouldn't get a GT500 instead of a Saleen?
I wouldn't be to sure of that. With the new GT500 expect to pay more than that $44K with markups and such. Not knowing what the GT500 will go for might put the Saleen in the best bang for the buck, and the Saleen offers the auto too as an option.

There is no way the Saleen will beat the GT500 in the dollar per horsepower comparison. Bang for the buck and Saleen should never be put next to each other in the same sentence.

Ultimate bang for the buck is the Mustang GT.

there is one small problem with this idea - the GT500 won't be available for nearly a year and a half (provided they stick with the current advertised time scale.)

u don't buy a saleen for best bang for buck u buy it for the saleen status and prestiege

We've gone there before. Only the uneducated think a Saleen is prestigious (sp?). Nice looking yet underpowered (for the cost) car.

I wonder how a Saleen owner feels when he has to wave and smile at a Cobra (or better yet, your "lowly" 91 GT) just after beating up on a Civic. Most likely momentarily humbling, just untill the next kid strokes the old "Saleenite" ego at the gas station. What a hollow existance. :rlaugh:

saleen owners can have their "prestige" for overpaying for what is essentially a body-kitted mustang with some suspension, braking, and little engine work. id rather have a cobra over a saleen any day, unless we're talking S7. saleens are nice, don't get me wrong, im just givin my humble opinion.

OK. I am not bashing saleen owners, but I now have a Saleen theory. It is this...

While most real "car" guys would buy a GT and add his own hand picked mods, a Saleen owner chooses the mass modded previously assembled models. They most likely do not have the knowledge to choose the mods and lack the ability to do the mods themselves. This would be the same type of person to call a plumber to unclogg the sink. Real hands off type of people. So, when you cannot do for yourself, you are at the mercy of those that you ask to do it for you, thus sacraficing in end result and then again in the guaranteed price gouging.

I always tell my wife when she says "should we call someone", why? So we can pay twice as much and get half the qualtity? (in saleens case, replace quality with power)
