Resale Value?

However meaningless it may be, I've added my name to the "list" at a local dealer for the 07 Shelby. Any speculation out there what kind of resale value I can expect for my 05 GT when the Shelby is finally available? I know it's a hot car now, but how do you think it will do in the long run?

Hey Woode,

It is really hard to say. If it was ME and I knew I would be getting the 07 Shelby, I would consider selling the GT right nowish, while the Supply is short and the Demand is high. You would probably get back what you paid for it. I would buy a semi-inexpensive import... LOL.... Ride the gas crunch, place the residual into an good diversified portfolio and let it earn some interest while you wait for the coveted Shelby.

I would not expect; however, for them to Appreciate per se'. The 05 will hold the paid value as long as supply is short and then you can expect the standard $5,000 per year value drop, sorry to say.

Congratulations on the Shelby!

I'm planning on the Shelby too - through the military sales program here in England. I think I will do pretty good selling my 05 GT next summer. I paid $28k for it, and the going price here in the UK is right around $55k! By next summer my used 05 should still make me a decent profit to go towards the Shelby. I'll have to pay 22% tax on the U.S. value at the time when I sell it, but I think I'll still be OK. Should make an even better profit when I sell the Shelby a couple of years after that - depending on what Ford tempts me with then!

Jennifer,

That's probably good advice, but at this point there are no guarantees of getting the Shelby (or when), so I would hate to give up my 05 without a guarantee of some sort. Perhaps when they first start taking legitimate orders for the Shelby & there is a realistic end point.

Welll......tough to tell right now, but all indications are good.

--'05 GT orders are filled up
--even used '05 GTs at the auctions are bringing MSRP
--most new '05 GTs have sold at MSRP or above
--dealers are lining up buyers for '06s when they start ordering in the middle of May....that means that at least initial orders for '06s will be strong, too.
--my dealer says his first 3 months of '06 allocations will be sold out

That doesn't mean that the Mustang will continue selling for MSRP, but for the foreseeable future, they can and will.

woode,

Hard choice.... it is sort of like fortune telling... LOL..... As most of us have pointed out, current supply has help hold value, but as soon as the supply gets met and demand starts to drop off....we all will take it in the hiney. I NEVER purchase a vehicle in hopes to ever get my money back out of it. Unfortunately, long gone are the days of a vehicle being considered an "appreciable asset"..... I consider it a depreciable durable good. :) (which is really fun to drive)...

Good luck.... I would love a Shelby.....I think I would prefer a vintage though. :)...
