Wow, it has been a long time since I have been on here, I can't beleive my login still worked. But alas I have a question and since I have been out of the loop on prices I need some opinions. I just checked out a '65 mustang 'vert and need an opinion on its price. Here is the lowdown:

6 cyl
4 speed
power top
No other options

Definitely a driver, not a show car, but a vert good looking car cosmetically. The floor pan is missing/rusted about 3" starting from the outer rocker along both sides of the car. It was repaired with some 1/4" steel and some angle iron, looks very solid but obviously not correct. It was welded good and is VERY solid but like I said not correct. There is some bondo sporadically on the car in the usual rust prone areas but not very much. Everything else is there and works and is solid. He is asking $10,500 which seems like alot but I haven't priced these cars in years and I know there values have shot up. What is a reasonable price for this car. I was thinking $9000 as per the nada price guide on the low end. Please Help (time is of the essence).

I was under the car for 1.5 hrs so I did a thorough check, only the floor plan is where I saw the previous rust. I just want to drive this car, not show it.

its a 6 banger so that kills the value, but its a vert so that helps it. the price sounds good if the car is in good shape, a 20 footer style.

Man I'm thinking $8000 would be the highest, you never know what your getting into under everything else.

How's the '68 coming along? Got any pics? Still painting houses? Finish school yet?

Yeah amazingly enough nothing has really changed except I graduated last year. I'm probably going back again this fall for one thing or another. Yeah, the car would look like a million bucks in a pic, so its not really worth posting any. Like I said has bondo (only way to tell is with a magnet though) and has those gaps in the floor pan where someone welded metal in there to fix it. I'll prob say $8500 take it or leave it, $10,500 is too much, he'll need to find some idiot to get that price, which unfortunatly there are alot out there that would give it to him.

Welcome back. I thought you sold the '68? I still see you pop up on my IM list and always wondered if you'd ever get back to the hobby. I've been away for awhile myself. All my write-ups and long-winded tech posts from the past 2 years are gone.

looks can be deceiving. regarding the rocker panel repair(if you can call it that), i would walk away clean from that car on that alone. 1/4" plate and angle iron make for a very poor repair on a unibody car. remember that they welded 1/4" thick material to 16 gauge material. how strong do you think this "repair" really is. i can tell you not very as all the stress is on the sheetmetal in small area's and not all along the body as was designed. i say offer the guy 2500 at best. if he refuses, you are out nothing.

Stangboy, how the heck are ya? I see ya on the IM under your 67' alias all the time, been wondering what became of you? Still into wrestling? Don't worry, I won't welcome you back with the infamous pics.

This car sounds like trouble to me. Personally I would rather have to make a repair that has been neglected than undo a bad repair and then redo it. What became of the 68' anyway?

I'm not a good source on pricing anymore. In my head, all the prices stood still from about 10 years ago, lol.

However, I would say that if you just want it as a driver, I wouldn't worry too much about the incorrect repair. I don't see anyone getting into a decent looking 'vert for less than 10K anymore, even if it's a six banger.

Thanks for the advice, I decided to pass on the car. I have a feeling once it gets driven (he claims to drive it a couple hundred miles a year), the car may fold up like an accordian. I still got the '68, and its under about 6 inches of dust rather then the 3 inches it was under last time I was here. I'm always logged onto stangboy67 on AIM if u need to bother me . I'll still keep my eyes peeled locally for a car becuase there is no way im traveling accross the country to find some car, I'm too lazy for that and I'm in no rush.
