i searched the forum for manual tranny noises and have not seen the problem i am having...during acceleration, i hear a noise that sounds like detonation....coming from the right front. i hear it mostly in 4th gear cuz thats when the exhaust is the quietest. i can hear the noise in all gears however. i took it in to ford and they said at first that it was an exhaust problem and they ordered parts for it, but it didnt fix the problem. after a week, thay said that they could not figure it out and finally drove another gt 5 speed and it made the same noise, so there was no problem. it seems to me that just because another gt 5 speed did the same does not mean that there is no problem. what do you guys thik about it? it sounds like a knocking sound.

Someone else with the same problem I have. Got my car 3/2 ( GT 5spd) has exactly the same symptoms. The dealer told me exhaust noise at first but finaly got an engineer to check the car. He said it was driveline noise, had an engineering letter specifying a transmission kit to be put in the box.
They did the repair, noise is still there. Finally agreed that the noise ( i describe it as a knock) is not normal. New transmission is on order now and should be in the car this week.
I drove another GT and did not hear the noise.
Let you know what happens after the new tranny is in!

Could Be The 2 Missing Bolt Thing Ive Heard About

thank god i am not the only one! keep me posted on what the dealer says. i also called them about the fuel tank filling problem and they played dumb about it....until i told them about the TSB. then they said oh yeah, go ahead and bring it in and we'll get you a new tank. hopefully they can also fix my tranny problems as well.

I think mine exhibits the exact same noise...if so, I doubt a tranny replacement is going to change it as it may well be one of the damn stinking sounds that are endemic to this stinking loud noisy tranny...just my opinion.

I haven't taken it in for that exact problem as I'm sure they will take one look at my magnaflow catback and call it "exhaust noise" just as they did for you two.

Rattles...

Hello everybody...I'm new around. My first Ford ever...and I love it!!

I had those symptoms of vibrating/rattling/knocking sound during acceleration when the car was cold. Seems like when the car was getting hotter, the sound was leaving. On my first oil change I told the mechanic to check it out and there it was, well in fact was not... 2 bolt missing on the bel housing. The cover was knocking on the housing.

So I would check this out, takes two minutes and two bolts to solve the mystery....

Have a good day!

Bigcat, I'm in Danville, Va. my dealer is in Eden, NC. I was told that the district service engineer was the person that checked out the car. This guy has 41 dealerships that he is responsible for.
He gave his belssings to a new tranny much more easily than I thought he would, I never talked to him directly, only thru the dealer.
Stiill don't have the new box though; maybe next week.
Did you list an e-mail address in your profile?

as i look around some more, i guess that the missing bolts might be some of the problem, and i have the clunk like a bad u-joint sound as well...shoot just what is wrong with my tranny? syncros, bolts, ??????? :damnit:

dropped the 05 by the ford dealership today...grabbed a piece of paper as i was getting out and the service advisor was like "got a list for us today?". damn straight and i want it all fixed this time. i took it in for the tranny noises, front end noise, bad low note horn, faulty gas tank, and another oil change. they said that their "mustang tech" was not in today, but they would try to get it all worked out for me today. i told them to just verify the problems, do thier warranty paperwork and order the parts so i can bring it in when the parts get in....last time i took it in, they had it for 4 days, then told me there were no problems..... :bs: i told them this time to get it all done right the first time. you would think that an employee of the dealership (dont work at the ford store though) would get a little better response since i am always there, and can bug them everyday if i needed to, but i guess that they dont see it that way. i just want my car to run great with no problems/noises. FIX MY CAR!!!! (i also left all the TSB papers on the passenger floor, so maybe they wont screw around and say that they dont know what the problems are....)

:D Picked up the car this afternoon, new tranny was installed yesterday. Still a noisy box but, the knocking noise is not there in this transmission.
There are a lot of mechanical noises in the transmission but I'm a happy guy right now!

Hope you have as much good luck as I have had BigCat.
