Ford's April Sales Slide on SUV Weakness - However -

The Mustang continued its pace with sales of :spot: 19,559 -- the highest April sales for the car since 1980, Ford said.

"Right now, the only thing keeping Mustang at bay is lack of inventory," said Steve Lyons, Ford's vice president for North American marketing, sales and service. He estimated Ford dealers had fewer than 13,000 Mustangs in stock at the end of April.

The best of times; the worst of times. Read the Business Week article on GM-it doesn't sound very good even if they start making better products. The only big success GM has had recently is cadillac, which has based its resurgence on performance.

Maybe SVT can drag Ford back to profitability.

how many GT's?

I wonder how many of those 13,000 Mustangs are GT's... probably less than 200 if the dealerships I visited are any indication!

I've seen only 3 - and none Torch Red like mine.

I've seen a white, redfire and wv blue V6. Saw a white GT in traffic on 35 one day and talked w/the guy. I did see a torch red GT w/silver stripes awhile back in S. Austin. And just yesterday saw a silver GT on 15th St. I've seen at least a couple of black GTs. I'm seeing a whole lot more '05s lately than I did just a month ago. Although, I have yet to see any other legend lime. And I have yet to see a single vert. Although, for me, it is way too hot here for a vert.

I think I have seen every color on the road except for mineral grey. They were almost all V6s though. I have only seen two GTs, one was Sonic Blue and one was Black. The most popular colors I have seen are both Reds and Black.

I don't think that Mustang sales are being limited by anything other than greedy dealers. One local dealer has had a Screaming Yellow GT on their lot now for over a month; and I bet it remains there with the $7,000 "market adjustment" over MSRP for quite some time.

Was that a vert or coupe w/ $7 k extra? What state is it in?

That's so ridiculous it sounds like maybe they want it there for show, and if someone w/ lottery winnings buys it then bully for them.

Mustang sales aren't limited by anything other than Ford's capacity to produce them and the plant in Flat Rock is working at full production. Ford sold more Mustangs in April than they produced. According to George Pipas, Ford's sales analyst, the Ford in shortest supply (highest demand) is the Mustang GT.
