Engine swap 3.8 to 5.0

my friend wrecked his 95 gt and left me with his car in my garage. i was thinking about swapping out his engine with mine. i have a 95 too but its only a 3.8. since they are the same year and basically the same type of body i was thinking it might not be that hard to swith out the engines. what do you all think.

also does anyone know if you can put a double tail pipe from a 5.0 on a 3.8? cuz i want that too.

Not sure about the tailpipe thing but if you plan on switching over to the 5.0 your looking at the wiring harness, exhaust, computer, and I think engine mounts. Thier are also probably some other things I left out.

since you have a parts car, go for the swap.

you now have the harnesses, mounts, sensors, etc.

the exhaust from the 95 GT shouldn't be a prob to install on your car(after the swap, of course).

assuming all the drivetrain, computer parts on his car are still good it looks like you have a prime opportunity to get a v8 swap going. it will require basically swapping his car into yours not just the engine. your going to need the engine, tranny, rear end, engine mounts, wiring harness, ecu, and probably more. but hey as long as most of those parts are still good id go for it. and yeah you could swap the exhaust on even if you keep the v6 in there and just get some GT takeoffs and can weld, or get someone to weld for u. good luck

Don't forget to check local laws as there is a procedure you need to follow to get it "approved" by local DMV. It's usually just a visual inspection to ensure you kept the smog stuff intact, at least that's how it is in MD.

Aside from what others have said you will also need to swap the dash wiring harness and instrument panel as they are different as well.

Let me know if you have any other Q's as I have researched this quite a bit.

I have done this...you will need the full exhaust from the headers back, full suspension, rear end, clutch!!!!! master cylinder, radiator, fan...and ALL the electronics..computers, etc..

Since you have a doner car, it is a prime opportunity to take the crap out of yours (basically everything under the hood and under the car) and put the GT's stuff in. The great land of Mississippi *cough* just checks to make sure your blinkers, tail lights, and headlights work *snicker* They don't even check tint.

I think a reason 98stangV8 had to swap all of that is because his car is a 98 V6....Ours...the 95's i heard had a lot more of the same stuff as the 5.0s of 94-95. I'm not sure though but I think we did have most of the stuff.

oooh, maybe....you might be right there...I don't know too much about the v6's from that year...

I have read up on that a lot and I am thinking that they have more in common than the rest of the V6s and V8s....I would like to know more about this though as I do plan to do this swap into my Mustang this summer. It would make for a great project and it would be worth the work when its completed.

Late post, I know. But I rarely drop by the V6 Tech forum...

The 94-95 V6 and GT have a lot in common. They were created on the same assembly line, and were split up later on. The 96-98 'Stangs were created on different assembly lines from the start. The dash wiring is the same, all you have to swap is the instrument cluster. The radiator is identical, and so is the braking system. If his cooling fan is intact, take it - it spins faster then the V6 fan. The exhaust from the GT will work, though you'll need to make sure you take the exhaust hangers from the GT.

I have never heard anyone say this is easy, like said above since you have the whole other car it might be alittle easier. I believe that you need more then just the engine. I think you need the engine tranny, driveshaft, and rear end just to name a few.

You might as well be rebuilding your whole car.
