heres the set-up:

97 Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC (4 door)
mods: Cold Air Intake, Mugen 4-2-1 header, 2 1/4 inch straight pipe, ricer fart can "muffler", 7 mm wires and +1 plat plugs

88 Mustang 2.3 N/A
mods: Cold air intake, long tube header, 2 1/2 inch exhaust (no cats), flowmaster muffler, 8 mm wires +4 plat plugs
Honestly....who do you think would win in 1/4 mile....and don't just say the stang just because this is stangnet. I'm honestly not sure because I've driven the civic and its quick but a couple of people swear that the mustang(mine but not with all of those mods yet) would take the civic. you are the guys who know 2.3's so let me know what you think.

see thats what i figured but these guys are positive that the civic wouldnt take me...this civic has taken a couple of 5.0's a 99 camaro RS, a 4.6 mustang, a turbo jetta, the list goes on....its a sick little four door....but these guys at work swear to god that my car would be more responsive to the mods.

But i see it as even if i had the same power and a little bit more torque....even with the same weight, he would still have VTEC (which is something) and more RPM's (which is also something).

But check this, I took a 91 prelude with a JDM engine, tranny, and differential, it dyno'd at 160 hp to the wheels, from 0 to 45 MPH, we slowed down because we saw a cop, his is five speed and mine is auto....and all i have is the flowmaster, the cone filter, the plugs, and wires.

Now that was a surprise to me.

you will lose, straight up. especially if his 1.6 is the B16 from the Civic Si. and no, if you had the same power weight and torque, his hallowed VTEC would not be what beats you. i dont care if he can turn a million RPMs, if he cant make any more power then whats it matter?

I have a friend who has a turbo dodge h-body and it is a pretty quick car. I was really impressed with how fast it really is. I was riding with him and met up with a civic exacly like you are talking about, but this guy didnt do anything to his intake yet. He had exaust and that was about it (exaept for a nice body kit and rims) and when we took off, we were neck and neck the whole 1/4 mile. I have a mustang very similar to yours, and my buddys turbo beats me no questions asked. I hate those turbo guys! jk So unfortunately, we dont have much of a chance.

you will get owned, N/A 2.3's are just slow. I lost to tow trucks before  (turbo diesels)

Dr.

HAHAHAH When I had my 2.3 N/A I lost to a tow truck pulling a car lmao. It was funny how slow my car was. Probly pushin 80 HP at the rear wheels.

BTW You will lose to the civic unless .....UNLESS you sumhow unplug one of his plug wires without him noticing before you race him haha.

No, his engine isn't Si. But what about the Prelude?....this guy was pushing it to it's limit, honestly....I took him my two cars to 45 and he hadn't even began to gain on me by that point...and my transmission slips. Well, I am still determined to make my little N/A quick....maybe not fast...but at least faster than any other N/A. Everyone tells me that it's a fruitless endeavor but that only makes me want to try more.

Anyone know how strapping an intercooler and a turbo onto the N/A motor would do? just a thought... maybe 6 lbs at most.

Anyway, I've raced neons and smoked them. I've raced some V8 astrovans...smoked them. I've raced a Jeep wrangler....took him too. I raced a g35.....not a pretty sight for the 2.3, but I knew what the outcome of that was going to be. I honestly dont believe a tow truck could beat me. But maybe I'm wrong. I think you guys are too negative on the N/A's because the turbo's are so much quicker. but again, maybe I'm wrong.

I plan on getting some machine work done on my engine in the near future, porting, polishing, shaving, and boring. I can get it done for free....so it won't be a waste. Any idea what that will do to the N/A motor? How about a better fuel pump and injectors? I just find it hard to believe that the N/A is hopeless. I'm really looking for ideas. Serious weight reduction? I'm determined.... put me down if you like, but I want to try.

If anything, I'll smoke metros, esteems, tercels, and neons for the rest of my days...
