Looking For Detailed Gear Install Directions

i finally got frpp 4.10's and now the guy that was going to put them in lost his other employee and it's going to be real hard to find the time. he owns a part store and just does work out the back. he has installed many sets of gears and was going to do it for about $200. i have called a bunch of places and nobody seems to do it. some guy from stangnet told me to call his guy and i did but he wants twice as much and lives way on the other side of town. i even bought a ford bearing and install kit to make it as easy as possible for anybody that does it. no trying to get bearings off without breaking them. just take out the old stuff and put in the new. i don't know anything about gears but i just might do it myself if i had real good instructions. the car only has 6000 miles on it. what do you guys think? does anybody have detailed instructions? what kind of tools do i need? i thought i would get them in this week. now who knows.PISSED

You can find instructions by using google. You will need inch pound torque wrench, magnetic base dial indicator, and a whole lot of luck. If you got Ford gears you might be ok. If you did not get Ford gears, it is very unlikely that you will succeed. The Ford dealer will install them for you should be ~$350... I suggest you have Ford do it... Good luck man

if i were you, i would pay the extra cash and let either ford or another reputable shop do it. $350 bucks +/- is well worth it knowing the install was right. i would just pay the $, forget about it, no worries. good luck.

Definately worth paying someone to do it right the first time so it doesn't end up costing you double, and then some.

If you have even the smallest mechanical ability you can do it yourself. I have very detailed instructions with all the specifications. If you want them for free, email me, you can then read them and determin if you still want to have someone else do it.

Look at the sticky on the top of the 4.6 Tech page and you'll see one about the best FAQ threads. Just go in there and find ones on gear installs.

I think you might be better off having a reputable mechanic put them in. Sure it will cost you, but it's not only about getting it done right, it's also about having a warranty on the work. If you do it yourself, who are you going to take it to if something isn't set right? Call some local shops and ask them how many rear gear swaps (Ford 8.8) they've done before even asking for a price.
