Need help selecting tires

Just got some new wheels! 18x9 and 18x10 anthracite Bullitts. So obviously, I need some new tires to squeal, and I'm sorry to say I know next to nothing about selecting tires. I see you guys toss up tire numbers a lot, but I don't really know what it means. All I can say is I do not want to increase rolling diameter from the stock 17s, and as far as width goes, I seriously dislike the rim sticking out farther than the tire, when the tire has to stretch a bit to meet the width of the rim. I want enough width on the tire to offer better protection for the rim. Would you guys do me a favor and throw some sizes at me that you think I should look into? Car is lowered another .75" from stock. Thanks very much!

I don't know what tires you are looking for but Nitto's website gives recommended wheel size for their tires. I would guess other tire makers have the same. For your wheel sizes the numbers slytherin gave are the norm.

Also, on the Discount Tire site they have a calculator where you can input your current tire size an desired tire size and it will tell you by how much your speedo will be off..

well you optimum rear tire would be 285/35-18. optimum for a ten inch rim and only .2inches larger. now you can run 295's as well but they will be .4of an inch larger.

front I would run 255/35-18 or 265-35/18

I went with bfg kdw-2's this time around. I like them. I ran yokohama avs sports last time and did not like them at all. too much tramlining.

there are lots of nice tires out there I looked at the toyo proxes t-s1's but there were very expensive.

tires like kumho and nitto are cheaper but I ahve never ran them.

I have bfg 295 35-18 dr's on 10" saleen replicas with eibach pro springs and my rear tires are rubbing the fender lip and it is driving me crazy ! I know bfg's run big, but I thought they would fit any suggestions ? or do I need to flip my quad shock over or something. Not to hijack the thread, I know Michelin pilots are rated well, but very expensive !

I have a non-lowered 2002 Mustang GT with BFG 295 35/18 in the rear, and I had a little bit of rubbing whenever I hit a bump at high speed, until I filed off some of the sharp edges and jagged irregularities on the inner edge of the fender lip.

You can also try rolling the fender lip (bending it away from the wheel). I think that lots of shops will do that for a reasonable price.

Are your BFG's pretty good at the strip or do you suggest something else? Do they wear fast?

I am going to the strip tonight, the bfg's were great on my 471 rwhp 03 cobra much better than nittos dr's.....but they do wear fast, I don't expect to get more than 3,000 - 5,000 miles on them

Ok, I know a lot of you guys run Nitto 555s. I just checked out their site, and I've got a fairly decent price on them but the widest they go in the back without switching to a drag tire is 285/35. For my 18x10 wheels, is that going to be wide enough to fit without stretching? Anyone have pics of 18x10s with these tires? It seems like it should fit without stretching, but what concerns me is 2 things: One, I've got Falken 275s on the stock wheels right now, so I'm only going 10mm wider for a wheel that's 2" wider. Am I not thinking about that correctly? Second, I know that Nittos are made by Toyo - and I know that Toyos tend to run narrow. Whatcha think?
