03/04 Cobras

Sorry about my last post and being off by 10 years :bang:

I'm really interested in the 03/04 Cobras and wondering about any problems with those. I think I read a post about trans problems with the 6 sp, but I could be wrong about that.

Please let me know if you know of any problems, concerns or issues I should be aware of with 03/04 Cobras. :flag:

Thanks
Brian

I haven't heard of any problems with the T56 6-speed...it's probably the beefiest tranny that's ever been put in a Mustang...

As for problems, several cars developed the 'tick' in the drivers side head but it can be replaced by the dealer under warranty...

Thanks Jim, :hail2:

I've been looking around and have seen quite a few 03's for sale on Auto Trader - enough to make me wonder about problems. Could just be people tired of paying for premium gas or high insurance rates. :bang:

I'll watch for other replies, maybe from someone who owns one.

Interesting post. I have been looking into the '03 Cobra as well. I confess my complete ignorance of Mustangs as I have run with the Corvette crowd up until last March when I sold my ZR-1. Now, I am looking for a new toy. Up until today, I thought that there was only an '03 model with no SVT for '04. I am looking forward to combing through the old posts and learning the ins-and-outs of these rides!

TOB = throw out bearing! I should have known. If I had a buck for every TOB I've replaced I could buy a set of cheap tires for a Yugo, and maybe get a Happy Meal, too.

Thanks for curing my ignorance and I'll be listening for noisy TOB's on any 03/04 Cobras I check out. :nice:

I had a problem with my T56 from the factory. (Vibration in 6th Gear) They rebuilt it twice then ended up replacing it a day before I could have given the car back. Seems like an isolated incident with the T56 though I just had a bad experience i guess....

info

As much moaning and compaining as I do I guess I was rather lucky because otehr people I knoe have had more problems...but here's mine.

My car was one of the first couple hundred built.. here are the problems I had

1. bad alignment problem...pulled to right real bad.. the dealer had to redrill the camber plates

2. three defective tires.(confirmed by high speed balancer).. dealer wouldnt help because the steering wheel vib happened at 80+..and i mean a serious oh SSSS vib that would be happening at athe end of the track

3. leaking....fog lights...could have been used for gold fish...actually filled up with water...

4. sqeaking...sqealing/..... windows

5. broken driver seat...two buttons and loose after 13,000 miles!

6. passenger seat sqeaks after someone sits in it....i think there is a tsb on that but not sure

7. clutch burnt up after I smoked it just a little...would barely shift into 1st or rev...dealer blamed it on modified shifter handle... (aka pro 5.0)

8. idler pulley literally blew up buut i guess thats from racing...all idler pulley bearings were going bad.

I guess I was lucky....no major problems... No Engine problems or tick or anything.... I guess you are really just paying for an engine with this car anyway....

I wouldn't recommend buying one new...is it were still possible...especially if you planned on being happy with it stock...without putting money into it yourself to get it right... As long as you really check it out a used cobra wouldnt be bad...as long as you are not that picky about your car.....

If I ever buy a fun car again...not to race but just a toy for the street....it will be an import...

hell my volvo with 250,000 miles has had fewer problems than the mustangs I have owned!

Whaaaaa.....

Good lord how bitter can you get. It's a muscle car and they not touring sedans for crips sake. You want luxary and reliablity get a Japanase car. If you want seat in the pants fun ...with a lot of potential headaches by a mustang. I perosonally don't mind that the cars are not perfect. Neither am I ....makes me think we kind of bond and go through lifes problems togehter....

*sappy grin*

LOL

sorry getting centimental on my car.
I'm sorry you had so many problems...my 99GT which I just got rid of had ZERO problems not one...while my wifes toyota was in the shop 5 times.

Sometimes you get a bad build. :nice:
