2005 Ford Mustang GT vs. 2005 Pontiac GTO

I saw a '05 LS2 GTO on my way to work this morning (going the opposite direction of course), could tell from the hood scoops and split dual exhaust, looked pretty mean. The car is definitly growing on me some. I think it's hard to argue with 400 hp from the factory.

hmm interesting, I have driven right behind one and didn't even realize it was gto until we both parked and i walked by it lol
of course the one I saw was an 04 model so maybe thats why

You guys forget one thing, the GTO is suppose to be a sleeper. If you want a lot of show that's what the Trans Am or Camero was for or for that matter, the new 05GT with the retro look. I like the understated look because I don't every cop in the city LOOKing at me (just the ones that know what it is). What I like is the great ride, the thrust of the LS1, and the european fit and finish with the American muscle sound from under the hood.

I'll tell you this, whoever was driving those cars in the test sucked. Pretty weak numbers . . . :flag:

I saw the yellow Monaro posted earlier in this thread. A little to ricey for me. Here are a few pics of the members GTOs that I like. It doesn't take much to spice them up!

Mustang/GTO

I recently purchased a V6 conv. for my wife, so far great car.It is the third Mustang we have had, 84 and a 94 as well.Hands down the Mustang beats the GTO in the styling department.I like the look of both from the inside, but the one thing that I noticed other than the fact the GTO has 100 more horses is what Pontiac has done to dress up the engine compartment with a not to expensive piece of plastic covering that many cars have these days. When I first popped the hood on a new Mustang GT I could not help but notice the 4.6 had about the ugliest looking valve covers I had seen on perfromance car in a long time. I know valve cover swap-easy fix dress up kits etc, but comon Ford, come out with about the nicest looking muscle car in a long time and the engine compartment looks like Beetle Juice on steriods.I have owned Z-28's, Camaro's and the above mentioned Mustangs I am somewhat partial to Chevrolet and currently also own a 63 Corvette, but I do appreciate fine American Muscle cars from all brands and the Blue Oval boys have done a fine job with the latest Stang, now just get the engine looks up to par.

I've never minded the front - it's the back half of the car that I hate. That's what looks like a Cavalier to me.

I agree. The front looks like a Pontiac, I have no problem with that. It is the back that makes it look like a bloated Cavalier, no thanks.
Just my $.02!

That silver gto actually doesn't look so bad
ya I agree it has a sleeper look but I don't think GM purposely did that
Just cause it's a sleeper doesn't mean it can't look good though
GTO's in the passed look appealing to me but this one just has something about it that makes it look bland
maybe if it were less bubbly looking and slimmer in the middle section it would look better (of course that goes for people too lol)
Nice engine setup though thats for sure

DocGTO - Just an observation. Regarding the photo entitled "Maggie S/C 11 second GTO" I sure see a lot of smoke, but only from the left rear tire. Am I missing something? How could Maggie do 11 seconds when it appears she doesn't have a limited slip?

In that photo he just finished his burnout so he was rolling up to stage and the smoke was drifting with him. These cars had a Dana rear end with an Eaton limited slip unit.

I actually like the new(05) GTO.. It has an understated look about it and the engine is a beast.. I wouldn't trade my stang for one but I'd possibly buy one to park next to the stang.. nothing wrong with a lil diversity..

yeah i gotta admit it's kinda growing on me, i'd pimp a black one, but if i had 35k just chillin i'd get the stang first, then maybe juice her up...

I just don't like new GTO, great motor but the body style does nothing for me. I am sure if I had an extra $50,000 (about what you pay after interest on the loan, customizing etc.) I would rather go find some grandma or grandpa in Montana with an old goat and buy it and fix her up. I think I just stained my pants thinking about that one :)
