I am trying to reinstall my stock brake caliper. It's the rear passenger corner. The problem I am having is the lower line (is that the brake line?) seems to be a bit long. So it wants to push the caliper rearward. I can almost get it lined up to mount with a lot of force, but not quite. I spent a good 20 minutes fighting with it to try to get it back.

The other thing that might help is if I could compress the caliper piston. I have just barely enough slack to get it over the pads. I tried opening the reservoir (the plastic cap), and then put a clamp on the piston. But it would not budge. I did not want to break it, so I stopped before applying much pressure with the clamp. Any suggestions on compressing the piston?

I think the hose combined with the piston are both fighting against me enough that I can't get it back on. Has anyone else run into this? Any thoughts on what to do?

Here's the solution in my case - I didn't have the piston seated far enough back into the caliper and the pad was hitting it. I could only get one bolt on at a time. The rear pistons are not compressed with a c-clamp like the front ones. You need a rear caliper tool that turns it clockwise. You can also use a pair of needle nose pliers. If you look at the piston it has two indentations 180 degrees apart. Use the needle nose here and spin it clockwise until it's seated below the boot. Then your calipers should line up easily.

Hope this helps. I spent 90 minutes fighting this one.
 
lol you shoulda seen how hard i was torquing down on that rear caliper, put a wrench on the end of the c-clamp and bent the bar used to spin it with :bang: Called a friend and said to use needle nose pliers.
 
Thanks guys. That got it. I ended up getting the tool from Pep Boys though. The needle nose pliers got me most of the way there. But it got REALLY tight in the last few turns. And I needed more room to get em back on. But with the right tool, I got em down.

That was the last thing standing between me and my newly installed 4.10 gears!
