Brakes upgrade

Instead of improving HP numbers, I'm looking into improving my stopping distance...

I'm getting close to take delivery of my '05 GT (Silver+IUP+Red Leather+5sp+Shaker 1000+active alarm and original wheels - don't care much about the Shaker 1000, but got it discounted!). One of my employees from Europe is currently in Montreal and was fortunate to rent an auto GT from Hertz (yes - a GT was available at Hertz! I could not believe it!) and after a week of kicking the ***** out of it, we scared ourselves a couple of time with the brakes.

Having suffered for 3 out of 4 lease years of poor braking power on an Acura TL type S until I changed the front discs and pads (perf/slotted, street racing pads on front, but kept the original calipers), I want to put a full brake kit (discs, pads and calipers) definitely front, probably back as well as soon as I get the car (on Tuesday!), even though the car will also be a lease.

I searched this forum and internet but could not find any upgrade package available for '05 GTs. Any suggestions?

I ordered the Baer upgrade kit from Brothers Performance. It includes two 14" rotors, upgraded PBR caplipers and stainless steel brake hoses. They are supposed to send me two upgraded rear rotors (drilled, slotted, and acid washed) so the brakes will all match. Ordered them and the Bonspeed wheels 6 weks ago, two weeks after I ordered the GT. To this date I have nothing yet.

DO NOT CHANGE BRAKE FLUID!!!, you would just be wasting your money. Ford brake fluid has one of the highest boiling points available. Alot of race teams use it. Add some stainless hoses and some pads and it will help stopping ALOT.

Which kit? I am very interested in the Baer lineup. Please let us know what you think when they arrive!

Wow, thanks! I appreciate the heads-up. What pads do you recommend & where can I find some stainless hoses?

I just ordered the 13' fronts and 12' rears from Baer. Nice kits! If you want to track the car I would suggest the solid or slotted rotors. Stay away from the cross drilled for the track.

This is good advice. In addition you may find that DOT4 is incompatible with some of the components in the brake system. Even worse than not making an improvement, you could cause damage to your brakes!

The Ford "Heavy Duty" or now called "High Performance" fluid has a dry boiling point of 525 or so. That is not bad at all. To get better you would have to step up to Ate Blue which is in the 530s, AP has 551 and 600, and Motul has 600. And so on. I like the AP products because they prevent water absorption the best and maintain their higher dry boiling point longer.
