ok i know this kind of topic comes up all the time, but figured I'd give it a shot. I'm pretty much just beginning to mod my car out this summer. I have the 96gt Automatic with 90,000 miles. I know the 96-98's are notorious for their lack of power, but heck, i've always had a heart for the underdogs. Anyhow, I pretty much want a fast street car that may or may not ever get on a track. Thing is, this is my daily driver 365 days a year. So what kind of mods do you folks suggest i go with from first to last taking in consideration that this isn't strictly only a hobby car? A buddy of mine is convincing me to go with 4:10 gears right off the bat, and i know this forum is pretty big on the 4:10's, but seems every time I open a mustang magazine lots of people have 3:73's which makes me wonder what's best for me (one of my concerns is traction in the winter). Anyhow, thanks for any help ya'll can offer.

Before you decide on 4.10s you should decide if you'll be able to afford the extra gas you'll have to put in it, but then again it may not change your gas mileage at all, it all depends on how you drive it, and especially since you have an automatic you could very well get BETTER gas mileage. A lot of people say 3.73s are the way to go if you want a supercharger, but there are some s/c cars with 4.10s. But 4.10s are gonna pull a lot harder.

100 shot of nitrous would help you, and that way your car can still be a turd in the winter :D . Seriously though, 4.10's, full exhaust, pi intake and pi heads, and torque converter would be a good way to start.

To be honest if i had to do it all over again, i would go stealth mode. I would do all those little hidden mods that people wouldn't know and then i could say i don't have anything done to it. Me if i had a car like yours, gears, pi swap, stall, shift kit, and suspension. To me i would want to suprise people and love to see the look on there faces when they can't tell if anything is done and say it's stock, but thats me.

heh, yeah i like that idea too.

Ok well thanks a lot for the help folks. I think after i get the gears in, I'll go for the exhaust next and then the PI head swap. I have some questions about the whole exhaust business (brands, size of headers, price, etc.) but i suppose I can hold off till i get that far. Oh by the way... at what point in modding 96's and up do you have to start tuning the computer?
Thanks again.

I think 410s are overkill for any 96, specialy for a automatic. go 373s. either way....gears first.
next, pi swap, stall TC, shift kit, short shifter, then exhaust. will make for a great sleeper. ull scare the **** out of 99+ lol
