superchraging a stock engine.

So i have decided that the best route to take will be to superchrage my engine stock so then when i decide i want to build it up i can get heads cam and intake for a forced induction motor insted of fiting a super charger an a engine built for n/a power.
I am going to get a vortex v2-s trim "the quite one"
What do i need to think about and do to make good power and keep daily drivable reliability?
How much power can i expect to make?

as contractors say...... Build a strong foundation before you build the house.

translation: that blower set up is gonna cost ya a pretty penny. Now, if i was you, i would get a Comp Cams XE grind cam, TF TW heads and an RPM intake. this way you have natural power before you go into the SC aspect.

but if you go the blower route, you could expect to gain anywhere from 70-100hp depending on the tune and matching components like a throttle body, etc etc.

edit: you might not wanna go wtih the cam due to your 86 heads, but get something good to flow the air that the supercharger is pushing.
 
my point for doing a blower first is that i would be able to then buy heads a cam and an intake that is opimized for a supercharger. instede of going the n/a route then puting a supercharger on it. i cant get a s/c and h/c/i all at once. it would be a long time in between geting the two so i would not want to be driving n/a on a set up for a blower because i did not have the money to get the s/c with the h/c/i.
 
are you going to get a blower motor made? by that i mean low compression or just use your stock 9.0:1? If your going to keep that compression ratio, you could add heads, cam and intake now rather than doing a blower and it will be fine for NA AND when you get a blower put on.
did you plan on a custom cam or an OTS cam?
 
I like the idea of the blower on the stock motor personally. If I had to do it all over again on a street car it would be exhaust, then a blower.

I would suggest a conversion to MAF, and a 24-30# inj, 190lph fuel pump. Keep the stock cam until you change some other components, the gains will be minimal... you can go 10's on a stock cam believe it or not with that blower.

When your ready to build the motor I would go with a stronger piston and bottom end, the 86 block is one of the stronger stock blocks out there.

Just be prepared to build a stronger foundation when you add heads, cam and intake..you'll need it.

Not everyone wants 500+ RWHP.
 
My suggestion, if I had to do it all over again. Buy a crate motor and make more hp than the blower set-up. Time you get done with buying a good blower set up, all the things that will have to go with it(injectiors, mass air, a good tune and whatever misc things that pop up. You could spend the same or less money for a good healthy crate motor. Looking back, that is what I would have done and had a fresh motor to boot!

yeah, i noticed that too. you should be running high 11s at like 117mph or so.

accidentprone: i was just saying that you could do heads, cam and intake and make the power that is going to be near equivalent to the blower. Only thing is that once you add the blower and get "bored" with it, then you have to tear it all down anyway to add the stuff.
Rick makes a very good point though too. I would love to get a "rough" '90LX and put an exhaust and a blower on it for the wife to drive as a toy. They say tha there is nothing really like feeling the blower spool up and "kick" in.
 
The problem is that he has an 86 so he has not valve reliefs. If you change heads, then you have to notch the pistons. You might as well, just change pistons if you are gonna be in there. I would get an A trim if you are afraid of change internals.
