i just put in a king cobra clutch into my car, along with new flyweel and pilot bearing. i put on also headers and o/r h. me and my uncle tried to start the car, it made a sort or cranking quack noise(happens everything time i try to start it) and when the car is running there is a machine gun like noise im not sure if its the enigne or the tranny. i really need help i pulled all my hair out!

can you isolate where the noise is coming from? good chances that whatever you touched during the clutch install is where the noise is coming from (unless something else spontaneously went south). sometimes new TOB's (which hopefully you renewed) are tight and make some noise.

good luck.

another thing is i thought the king cobra clutch was supposed to be 10% less pedal effort, its actaully harder now, but i know its not the throw out bearing this is reallly aggravting...

i would be making sure the cable is routed correctly and that the alignment from the firewall to the quadrant is good. some cheaper aftermarket (adjustable) cables can leave a bit to be desired in the effort dept.
Make sure you have the slack in the cable adjusted properly.
good luck with it.

89mustanggx mind if i aim you? i know i was wrong, but i was thinking like a piston slapping against a valve there is a tiny exhaust leak but that is by the intermidate pipe to the h pipe. with the king cobra clutch is there any special part i need for it? i put on a king cobra clutch, press plate firciton disk, replacement sotck flywheel, and a new pilot bearing, am i missing something?

Pinpoint the leak. Buy a automotive stephescope (sp) and find exactly where it's comming from. I wish I could help, but not enough info. A header flange leak or collector leak will sound rather loud like it's comming from the motor. A bolt backed out can make a whole lot of racket in the bell housing.

if it is a exhaust leak then i would never thing that an exhaust leak could make that kind of noise. even if it was a exhaust leak what about when i tried to start the car, that crank/ quacking noise when i turn the ignition?

Is is a stock style starter (some mini's require shims)?
Correct number of teeth on the ring gear?

Any chance the bendix is bad or hanging up? (I take it this is your issue, but since we are not there with you and there was not much info given...).

Good luck.

Sounds like the starter not engaging properly if it happens when you crank it..Remove the coil wire and crank it and see if you hear it...Just for giggles remove the starter and reinstall it...Could be just removeing and replacing the starter made it go south...

Does pushing in the clutch make any difference?? If it's clutch, throwout bearing or tranny related that would make a difference...

i just finished taking out the gearbox im gunna finish the bell housing tommorrow, im friggin ass tired, had to do it the good old garage way (four tire jacks and a jack), my uncle turned the engine and said he thinks its the pressure plate im not sure if he said it was amcking against maybe the bell housing or whatever but ill keep it updated, now im pissed at 5.0 resto because when i ordered the friggin thing i specifcally aask with it have any problems, etc etc with a 89 t-5 tranny oh im gunnna raise some hell tommorrow

Would you elaborate on the "press plate friction disk" part? Did you not buy the King Cobra clutch kit? Did you buy them seperately?

Where did you get your flywheel? what part number did you use?
