yesterday i tried bolting up my new 17x9 cobra R rims. after everyone told me they'd fit....well they don't fit. so I'm flipping my quad shocks but the only issue is the point where they bolt to the axle is not coming loose. i got the upper bolts loose but the ones on the rear end aren't budging. i soaked em in wd-40 and tried the wrench and sledgehammer method without any luck. do i need an impact gun for this? (deosnt seem like it would fit in there)
maybe a torch to heat the nut? will these rims even fit with the quad shocks flipped? (i also have to modify my flowmasters too because they're rubbing on the tire.)

thats very odd, mine fit perfect, something has to be different on your car, heres a pic of my clearance, i guess its too late anyways

well for the record the quad shocks were not the problem. they fit (barely) and there was a little clearance but i figured i might as well flip them because of body roll and cornering and all that. i dont want them rubbing when i go around corners and figured id be safe if i flipped them. the main issue was the tailpipe on the passenger side was rubbing the wheel.

I'm sure you noticed that the "nut" is welded in, so it's not coming off. The bolt goes in from the back side and threads into that nut. Mine had the same thing, I tried WD-40, a propane torch and 120psi of compressed air...none of them worked.

What did work for me is this:

I got some PB Blaster - it seems to be better than WD-40. I sprayed the PB blaster on there and let it sit for 5-10 min. Spray it again and get a ratchet and a deep socket so that the ratchet will sit far enough away from the bolt to clear the shock. Now, I used a 15" cheater bar over my ratchet and (make sure you turn the correct way) I put some muscle into it. Got them both off. I think mine fit better with them how they originally were (15x10 draglites w/ 275/60 goodyear wingfoot tires). Mine is a 91 and I also used 1/4 spacers.

Good luck :nice:

I had 17x9 Cobra Rs with 275/40s out back, and they didnt rub anything ever.

I currently am running 15x10 Draglites with 275/60s and although under compression they rub, the quads and tailpipes dont pose an issue! I have heard stories of not fitting but I didnt seem to have an issue with my 17x9s!
