I got myself into a race coming up in a few weeks with a mercedes, didn't think to much of it untill I found out it has a V-12 in it!! My car has all the standard bolt-ons and runs pretty good IMO. It's best was a 118mph 11.88 et, on a very cool evening with track prep right on. But I haven't been able to match that , with my best the last few times out being in the 12 0's . I really want to beat this car....badly. Any ideas or something I can try before the race comes up? Oh , I'll be running on a set of pretty used Nittos, getting slick , that should help right? My 60ft has been as low as 176 , but average around 188, leaving on about 3500 rpms and just dumping the clutch usually spinning a little in first with hardly no spin , maybe just a chirp in second. Help me out , don't want to lose to a big ol barge that weighs about 1000 more lbs. than me. Mine weighs in at 3860...his at 4735. Don't know what if any mods he has..says it runs hi 11's low 12's. AMG Bi-Turbo (twin) V-12 Sport coupe supercar. cost is between $155-$175K. There is a young thirty something putz, with one in the Albany NY area, actually there are two, but this guys drives the Silver one and I run into him at the car wash and he is dropping all these hints to race, but I had 50mi on my new drag clutch and I just had to listen to his crank. I doubt if he will have the nuts to take it to the strip, I can only wish. Boy I would really like to get a movie of a terminator, bitch slapping this german supercar. I doubt if he could do better than 12's, unless he was a very experienced driver, this guy looked like he was still trying to learn how to use a razor. Where the F do they get the money?

If you run as you did at the track, 11.8-12.0, you should beat him. Those make a crap load of power, but are very heavy as was mentioned. Let us know what happens. Should be cose.

the bigger $$ they are, the harder they fall. Sounds like I might have to spot him a sec to make it fair. LOL! I won't run him on the street, I refuse to have the discussion with his rich parents lawyers, why I irked him into to killing himself. I know a lot of guys only street race or think it is the only "real" racing, but even with the temptation of knowing 485HP is available at the rear wheels, at any instant has not changed my opinion of that, just plain stupid. Maybe I can get him to go at the strip, I already made the invite and told him I could get him a helmet, if he didn't own one. He just looked at me cornfuzed, like is was speaking in tongues.
 "Dude, what am I going to need a helmet for??", probably not to protect any large volume of brain cells!

I'm hoping he shows up on street tires. Don't know if he has any mods. Haven't talked with him yet, race was a set-up type deal thru some guys putting on a bunch of match races at the local track. Only seen one of these type cars around in our area, driven by a young guy, hope its him, maybe he don't know anything, or at least less than me, about racing at a track. Taking place on the 18th , I'll keep you informed on outcome.

You still didnt tell us what model it is.
My uncle has a E55 AMG and it is bad as all get out, but it is not a 65.
I have only seen one SL65 at the track and he ran a 11.6, but I dont know if he was stock or not?

Those AMGs are hot cars. Stock to stock, an '03-4 Cobra isn't going to touch one. They are wickedly fast and with that automatic transmission they launch better than our Cobras. The real amazing thing is that they are no lightweights.

Either way, with bigger motors, screw blowers (Turbos for the SL65) and plenty of goodies from AMG, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Good luck!

:flag: :nice:

CL600 (older cars) are slow... it has a V12 but its naturally aspirated and isn't AMG tuned... the AMG version is twin-turbo, but I doubt you would find that kind of high-roller to race.

good luck, 11.88 should beat the CL600 if thats what it is.

Here's the results

Let me say from the git go, he was a nice fella, not cocky or a smart a. The car is beautiful , and it runs great. I started off from the house by setting my clutch up a little tight using the firewall adjuster, I like the pedal to be a little stiff. I'm not making excuses , but that cost me the race I believe. My first pass I smoked the clutch pretty much all the way down the track, I felt it and pedaled it thinkin I might clear it up. But when I got my slip I really new it was bad. Ran 12.86 at 111mph. Now I'm tryin to cool it down and get ready for the match race, it's a set time to line up. I back the clutch adjuster back out to almost where I started from and get in line hoping for the best. Oh yeah, that first pass 60' was a 1.93. We stage and leave about even but not for long. He pulls about 3 lenghts on me at around the 330 and we stay that way thru the traps. My time was12.51 at 112 mph. He didn't show his time and they split the slip so all I got was my side. If 1 length equals a tenth then he probably ran a 12.20's. I can run better than that, and I want some more, so I'm looking for him back in the pits and we find each other and before I can get it rematched he's saying he's got to go. He had his kid with him and another kid, his son's friend and something was up , they had to go. Didn't know what to think of this at this time. But, I've talked with him since and he's up for another round so to be continued. He was running some BFG drag radials and he told me that all he had done to the car was a chip tune. Said that's all they offer for the car, no aftermarket anything. Oh, my 60' on that pass was a 1.92 , still not good. I ended up running 2 more times that night with my 60's being 1.94 and 1.96 with my mph being way down , both being in the 111's , with my past runs being in the 117's and 18's. Just a bad night for me all around. I should have left things alone and just run the clutch the way it was, but this clutch has about 1900 miles on it since I changed it out and usually run with the pedal having some slack in the top , thought I wasa helping it by taking some of that slack out. OL well , live and learn. Sorry I didn't defend the American Muscle Car the way I should have......But I did outrun a 240 Z car with a sbc 350 in it. Don't know the particulars on it but it had uncapped headers hanging under it. Thanks everyone for the advice and support. I know I'm gonna get flamed , so let'er start.
