So...today is the day. I've lined up my xplan pin, i got my loan from my company (I work for a bank, so i get a good deal). I have a meeting with a dealer who says he accepts the xplan...

What do I need to do exactly? The dealer is going to tell me that he will need to factory order the car. How do i know what the xplan price will be on a factory order car? How do I 'lock it in' and make sure I don't get screwed?

Any advice?

As an aside, this is my first car purchase ever, so i am a total newb. ;)

I gave them a check for $1000 but they didn't even cash it. They just held it until the car came in, your dealer might do the same.

Also, make sure you get a DORA which is basically a form that has the following:

1) Priority number in the right hand corner. 10 is the best you can get, mine was a 21 and I got my car in 3 months. This all depends on dealer allotment and how many orders are in front of you.

2) Options you order with the car(IUP, Anti-theft, etc.

3) I think the order type is on there as well and says something like x-plan.

I also got the price before ordering so I knew exactly how much the car was going to be before I ordered it. That should be all you need.

I doubt they will take a credit card because when I purchased my Mustang the sales tax was a little higher then I expected. So I asked if I could put the remaining on my credit card and they said no due to they have to pay 1% of all credit card purchases to the credit card company.

Not true I sold cars for 2 years ... Worked for Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Dodge, Chrysler and Mazda dealerships.... They will all take credit cards to put a deposit on a car... However you are better off just getting a car they already have allocated to them.. you will get it much faster that way... An order can take up to 6 months sometimes to come in...

Just ask the manager what new cars they have allocated... He will have a list with everything coming in.... Put a deposit on one of them!!!

So you are saying that the dealer already knows what 2006s are coming in already???My dealer just told me if i order the car that i want it will be one of the first ones in,sometime in early Sept.Wondering if that is ture?Johnny

If you can't even come up with the cash for the down payment you might want to rethink this purchase.

Oh, i have 8000 saved up for the down payment. I just don't have that in liquid form (Its in a mutual right now). Becides, if its in a credit card, I can dispute the charge if there is any problem. Getting a check back from dealers would be a royal PITA.

So anyways, I am back. I was told flat out he could not get the car I wanted, and that factory orders for the 05 were booked. If I wanted anything, I would have to order the 06. To which I said thats fine, but did not sign a thing or give them a single red cent. Until I am seeing the price sheet I am on hold.

So is this basicly true? Should I try going to other dealers and seeing if they can order the 05, or just sit and wait.

He also said delivery of the 06 starts in mid to late august.
