Official '05' V8 MPG Report Thread

Keep the thread going, please. Temperature, weather etc. are a fact of life and it changes month to month. It is kind of nice to see what people are getting. I was a little surprised, but it seems the Auto is getting better mpg than the stick (for the most part). My guess is it is related to the rpm band when changing gears in the Standard - it just sounds so good you go up several hundred more rpm than you would if trying to get the mpg. :)

Closing a thread that has nothing but info because it is subjective would be silly, it's very valuable info for some people, especially those who are looking to buy and gas mileage is a concern.

That's just it. The data in this thread is completely eroneous. Ever hear the term YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY? There are too many variables to make a valid comparison. That's why manufacturers use standardized testing. Judging a cars mileage based on posts of users where there are too variables to list is silly, and subjective. People using data from this thread when considering a purchase should not buy the car

I've been getting about 15.5, sometimes up near 16 w/a manual transmission. I drive a mix of city and Intestate (interstate during rush hour). I reset the MPG on the dash one time on the on-ramp on a day where I left work after rush hour so I had a practically open road. At the off-ramp, the comp showed 29.2 MPG. Keep in mind however, that I did not stop once during this trip and kept a steady speed. Once I reached the off-ramp and started hitting the red lights, it dropped significantly, as expected

Some people's cars get poor gas mileage because they pump the pedal while cruising on the highway. That's one of my pet peeves. Its such a waste of gas. I just want to say to them "Use your cruise control for Pete's sake!!" ARRGH!!! :bang:

I have a Black/Red Int. GT with C&L Intake, Diablo Sport Predator, Borla Cat-Back is Performance-wise. I get about 10-12 MPG City and 17-23 Highway. Ridiculous sometimes...I sometimes just cant resist the temptation and find myself at the gas station the next day, but who cant resist?

This topic is pretty subjective wouldn't ya say guys? air temp, humidity, road condition, tire inflation, driving style, terrain (inclines, declines), wind conditions (head, tail, side, mph, etc...), fuel quality, tune of car, weight (of occupants, trunk items, etc), .......................................................... ALL play a part in fuel mileage.

I wont close the thread (yet), but just wanted to point out the silliness of it all
It's totally NOT silly. Looking at many mpg stats for different drivers, who yes are all in different conditions, you get a hell of a lot better picture of the car's MPG than what's stated by the maker and when somebody pops into the thread and sees they're way off from what others are getting he can then begin to troubleshoot why. At a minimum it's nice to see where you're standing compared to other drivers of the same car. By far not a silly topic. :(

Ok, I don't have problem with people reporting their mileage but a better picture? Yeah, I'll trust Joe Mustang and a completely non-scientific testing standard over the team of independant analysts at the EPA.

So, if i coast down a 2 mile decline with a tail wind and report my MPG someone reading this will get a better picture of MPG for driving up an incline with a headwind?

Or, if I floor it at every stoplight it will give someone a better picture of their mpg when driving their grandmother to church?

while these are extreme examples, I hope you see my point: silly

Manual tranny, C&L CAI with 98 octane tune, MAC axlebacks. I drive 40 miles each way to work, starting with 10 minutes stop and go getting out of rural town, 20 minutes on two lane twisty doing running 45-60 mph, then an interstate for 20 minutes doing 65-85 mph. If I take it easy on the gas pedal, I can easily top 22 mpg. If I mix it up every now and then, 20-21 mpg. If I'm a lead foot, then 19 mpg. Worse mpg on a full tank was 19, best was 25 on a highway trip doing 62 most of the way.

Yea, it's interesting to freaking know the range you get across drivers. One would of course be an idiot to look at one person's mpg report and make anything definitive out of it. But knowing that you have a range of drivers and a range of conditions and looking at that whole picture is useful and as I said, if for nothing else, interesting to see. It's just a thread with infomation provided by individual drivers of a car. To look at one person's report of 10mpg in the city and go "OMG" would be yes, "silly" I don't think or see anyone doing that or being that stupid. You take from it what you want but useless it is not. With your outlook, one might as well view all research studies with a wide range of variable as pointless and useless and that's just not true. :nice: just looking at the extremes is usefull. At the worst i'll do X and at the best I can expect Y. Not silly info.
