Please help troubleshoot my problem.

I should get my Xcal II in today and hopefully I will be able to tell something by sending the info from the datalogger to someone. I'll let everyone know what I come up with. I've heard several people having this problem, but I've never heard a solution.

This sounds like the exact same problem I am having. Let me know if cleaning the MAF fixes the problem. I don't think it would be my fuel filter because the car only has 26k miles. Please keep me updated!
Fuel filter change interval is 30k, so yeah it could be your problem.

Well, cleaning the MAF sensor did not solve my problem. I cleaned the sensor with CRC electronic cleaner using a q-tip, let it dry, then reinstalled it . Just took the car out for a short ride and it still does the same pulsing/jolting at low rpm. Tried accelerating hard and still can feel the pulsing and the exhaust doesn't sound quite right. The fuel filter will be the next thing but it looks like the stang may have to go into the shop to solve this issue.

Please let me know how this issue turns out. Most of the time to me, it feels like a problem in the drivetrain and not the engine though. Oh well, I hope we can figure this one out because it gets really annoying sometimes, especially when somebody is in the car with me.

Here's my experience with this problem. I have an 01 GT 5 speed, and my car would do very similar things. It turned out to be my cylinder 1 COP gone bad. Oddly ehough, it never set off the CEL. I would notice the misfire the most when I would try and make the car accelerate sharply while in 4th or 5th, at lower rpms. I had a friend that let me borrow a coil off of his car, and I was going to try it on each cylinder to find out which one it was. I was lucky; it turned out to be the first one I tried. Good luck!

If that were the problem wouldn't I feel it 100% of the time? Sometimes when I accelerate hard it feels normal. Other times I get these brief pulsies/jolts. I can always make it happen at low rpm (1000-1500) and it's definitely more harsh at low rpm. When this pulsing happens it does not affect the rpm level i.e the needle remains steady.

Disconnect the battery again to reset the computer. After cleaning the MAF It needs to relearn again.

When the tranny was flushed did they use Mercon V fluid? The 4R70W had a problem early on with torque converter shuddering which is why they moved from Mercon to Mercon V.

Yeah, same here. If I get on the car hard, it acts normal. It only does it at low RPM's when I'm barely on the gas. Maybe it does have something to do with the torque converter. I've heard that suggested several times before.

Maybe it is the torque converter. So far cleaning the MAF sensor, resetting the computer, and changing the fuel filter hasn't solved the problem. Sooner or later I'll find the culprit.

Ok, got mine fixed!!!

I was having very similar problems to the ones that you are describing. Got a new Xcal II with a custom tune, and problem solved!!!!!!!!!!

It was just all in my tune. Hope you guys have similar results.

Please enlighten me on this Xcal II thing. For a long time I had Hypertech tuning on the car and had no problems. I removed the tuning about a year or so ago since it required 93 octane gas and the gas prices were starting to skyrocket. The problems I've mentioned in this post started sometime after removing that tuning. Do you think this may have something to do with the issues I'm experiencing now? I think I might try puting the Hypertech back on just to see what happens.

I got the Xcal from www.modulardepot.com. They are on backorder right now. Just came out. I was lucky enough to get one of the first ones. They come with 2 custom tunes already in it. Just list your mods on checkout and they build the tunes for you.

I wouldn't even bother with the hypertech. Great thing about the xcal is you can recieve tunes via email and flash them to your car.

Look into it. I think you'd be happy. My car is running better than ever!!!

Now I just gotta get my bottle filled so I can try the N2O tune that they made for me.

Check the egr. I had some part throttle bucking a while back caused by a bad egr valve. Also a bad o2 can cause a similar problem and will not always throw a code right away. I had one that acted up only why it rained, kind of acted like an old distributor cap with a hair line crack in it. The best way to resolve the problem though is to find a way to datalog it.

I have this same problem and you guys are going to laugh when I tell you all I have done to try and fix it...I have had this problem for about a year now and it started before I did any mods to my car
-changed spark plugs
-changed fuel filter twice over the last year
-new egr valve
-new throttle position sensor
-cleaned maf
-when cleaning maf didn't work borrowed one from a friends GT that was running well, did not make any difference
-thouroghly checked for vacumn leaks
-new air intake temp sensor
-installed custom diablo tuner
-checked for exhaust leaks and fixed minor ones
-forget cleaning throttle body, its a bad idea so i just used this as an excuse to buy a 70mm, intake plenum, and cold air intake
-rechecked all plugs to make sure that none were damaged
-checked resistance across all ignition coils to make sure that they were all functional

I am at a loss to this problem even after all of these fixes were completed. I guess my next step is to replace the oxygen sensors. Then if that doesn't work I think I will take it to the freaking dealer even though I never like to do that. I really don't know what else it could be. This is not a universally caused problem i suspect-i.e. your car might get fixed with some of the above mentioned solutions.
