as a followup to my original post - the code was caused by a faulty gas cap. I ordered one today from ford and will install it in a few days - after that the code will go away. The problem was the gas cap was not venting and when I went to close it - the cap would not click after is was closed all the way. I hope this helps someone else out there.

I've got this same code on my car, I want to try & clean my MAF sensor and see if that does anything. I got the code read and it said it was an auxiliary emissions control. I really want to get this problem fixed within the next few days.

It has nothing to do with the gas cap or the MAF.
It has to do with the air pump and or sensors that are associated with it. It is located in the right front fender.

It pumps air in to the exhaust system to help burn off unburned fuel.

So how do I fix this problem? The SES light is startin to get annoying, especially at night. Also, with this problem would I be losing any power or does it not really affect anything?

It’s probable the air pump it’s self. But I can’t be sure with out seeing it.

I was starting to think it may have been the air pump and just looked and saw it was there. I'll try a JY piece but first it has been suggested that I unplug it and plug it back in to see if that may just fix it.

It's just an electrical fan motor unplugging and reconnecting it will not fix it. If it's bad it will have to be replaced.

put a piece electrical tape over the light till you get it fixed. :D

I did the same when my car came back with a code "P1408 EGR Flow rate out of range. Insufficient flow" turns out the DPFE sensor went bad.

as a followup to my code 1413 trouble - I found the problem - the wires in the power plug to the air pump were corroded and dripping thick rusty water. I am going to get a junkyard air pump with a piece of the connectore and harness attahed and splice it into my existing harness. What a mess...
