Wouldn't a higher (4.10) geared car naturally reach its top speed (or benchmark speed) faster than a lower (3.55/3.73) geared car anway? Identical cars and power bands aside, considering they are the same all the way around anyway.

I saw a couple instances in this thread...4.10's are a Lower gear than the 3.73's, although they are a higher numerical number.

And yes a lower geared car (4.10's) would reach it faster than a higher geared (3.55), with all factors being equal and driver at optimun performance.

Lol...

I'm 20 (now) at 204lbs now (because I lift weights/getting leaner) - Look at your join date...times change willy...but somepeople don't;)

The muscle car deal I killed you on...that was funny...find it in a search and post it...that was hilarious. You were asking questions and I was answering them. You didn't think that a younger person would know that...then blamed me for looking info up on the internet when I responded ONE MINUTE after you posted the question :D Yeah that will hold up in court. I'm not a body builder, you got that confused...I work-out. That was when you were saying you would beat me up and all this  I thought that was pretty immature coming from a 39 year old with a 8 yr. old daughter...but hey maybe that is just me :)

They don't make a $3 dollar bill?

So who was right "again" between me and you? I really think you were just tired when you typed it (seriously)...because I know your smart enough to realize that a lower geared car will pull that much harder than a higher geared car...it happens.

Uh-oh, the good ole' internet fight! :rlaugh: Really guys, its a shame this thread turned out this way. Everyone was throwing in their opinion, getting along great and BAM, the thread lost its value. Let's put this one to rest, shall we? Both of you guys are good guys and seem to know what you are talking about, so lets just leave it at that and get back to basics and save this crap for some other internet forum. Just my 2 pennies...

Tim :spot:

Theres no books,no calculaters, just personal experience. When I punch out my stang(it now has 410's) at 80mph,it has very little pull.If I do the same with the 373's it has alot more pull......Dude,Im a god fearing christian man,and Im not violent, but if I ever saw you in person I would just walk up to you and start beating the living sh@t out of you!! You fake, and your a liar!! Your a little piece of sh@t :)

I don't think your thinking of other variables...your thinking to "one way". You need to think at that particular mph is the 410's better or the 373's. With the varying gears it will put you at a "sweet spot" better than possible another gear...

Good Luck with that :nice:

Back to the subject: I hope I don't regret my choice of 3:55's with my AOD. I just bought them today and that now infamously expensive aluminum DS. I can hear everyone saying that I should have gone with at least 3.73's, but driving with my AOD in third gear while returning home over 50 miles made me realize I don't care that much for .1 second of ET. Besides, the 3.55's are a HUGE improvment over the 2.73's I have now. I also will be updating to the wide ratio gearset, which will be the equivalent of running 4.10's with the stock tranny. Big fun for just a little extra dough at the pump.

Hey all. I've got 4.30's and am loving them every time I drive my car. Fun! I cruise on the highway at 80 and I'm at 3,000 rpms. That's pretty much the beginning of my power band as I begin making power at 2,400 and go all the way to 6,400 rpms. Three thousand rpms is nothing to me.

While I have disagreed w/5spd in the past, I would agree that with an auto car, closer to stock , when floored from 80, the 3.73 might put you in a better part of the powerband than the 4.10's. My old 87gt when floored at a high speed the car would not let me be in 4th w/the car floored, it would alway kick up into 3rd, even if it was doing it at around 6000rpms in 3rd. Maybe w/the 4.10's your just in to high of an rpm to make any usable power w/your mods.

Just my opinion.

On a side note, I went from 3.73 to 4.10's, it felt like I picked up some acceleration at any rpm/gear, but that s was after my h/c/i, although I haven't or intend to do any top speed burst, but I figured it would help when I eventually go to the track. (haven't gone since my 8.9 1/8mile run when I had gt-40, equals, off road, 3.73, 2.2 60ft, I can't drive to well.)

Better than possible another gear????? What ever,,,,but I think your seeing what Im trying to say!! A race from 80 - 100mph will be won by the 373's,,do we agree?,,Hissin,,,430's ROCK :nice:

That is a possibility but it isn't set in stone because it depends on mods...because one gear may not allow a shift and another gear will shift (which equals more time taken up) instead of power put to the ground.

Just to many variables to say 373's are faster from 80-100mph no matter what.
