Synthetic Oil

If you have been using normal oil all this time, stick to normal oil. If you go syn, prepare to stay the course. Its not good to switch back and forth.

There is also the blend which is between normal and full syn. That's what I have been using ever since I purchased my Stang.

That guy is a dumb@ss. Yes, mustangs CAN use synthetic, but the DONT HAVE to use it. I have nearly 160k on mine and I use conventional (regular) oil. The reason is is because I never ran synthetic earlier so if I switched now, there is potential to run into leaks and such. If you have less than about 75k on your car, it should be safe to switch over to synthetic (correct me if Im wrong on the millage guys).

Anyways, you can run either in a mustang and next time that guy trys telling you something like that, tell him about this thing called the internet and how you can find all sorts of information there and it might help him not look like an @ss. :)

Sorry for the synical mood, but its early... Good luck!

Thanks for the info. The last time that I changed my oil I used regular oil and no problems but I couldn't remember if it was synthetic. Damn Pepboys...they even had it in their computer and they showed it to me. :nonono: Oh you don't have to appoligize for the synical mood because synical=fun!

you cna change to synthetic at any time. on my old 5.0 i changed from chevron dino oil to mobil 1 synthetic at 140k miles. there were no problems whatsoever and the motor actually ran better.

i run mobil 1 synthetic in my 98GT and change it every 5k miles. i could easily not change it for 20k miles, but i feel leary of going that long.

Synthetic is more protection from engine wear. It doesn't break down as fast as conventional oil and has other additives for removing combustion material and whatnot. You definately get what you pay for. My car used to take forever to cool down after a drive, but now it can cool down within 15-20 minutes; and I think I need to change my anti-freeze soon also.

I have to add this in, everyones fear for adding syntheic oil is that is will leak, which is not true at all, the older syntheics used to (10 years ago), but the new stuff actually help to prevent leaks it will swell the gaskets, i had a 84 mustang with 245,000 miles on it and leaked a bit put scastrol syntec in it and the leaks stop and it runs better, i use it in all my cars no(6 of them) none leak which a couple used to and they all run better.
