Just got this thing yesterday. The guy I got it from lost the keys, but I know for a fact it runs, I used to work with him. So I'm working on getting the ignition off, got it all down to pulling the ign itself, but she's not coming.

This car is going to need some serious paint, but there's hardly any rust. So what am I looking towards with this 5.0 HO? How hard is it to jump from 225 hp to 300, and the best route to do it, not neccesarily the cheapest.

your average head/cam/intake package will get you 300 to the rears with the supporting mods (fuel injectors, fuel pump, maf, throttle body) That'll cost you anywhere from 1500 for junkyard parts to however much you can make in a year, just depends. Average, prolly 2500 for outa the box parts and maybe another 1000 to have it installed. You're gonna also want gears on it, 373's run about 500 for install and gears. You could also go nitrous for 300 or a supercharger. The advantage of nitrous is it's cheap, the first couple times, figure about 40 bucks a refill and the addictive nature of the stuff and it adds up quick. Supercharger will prolly be the same price as the h/c/i combo. These are just rough estimates. The nice thing about the h/c/i combo is you save a little bit for a part and slap it on and feel the gains and drive your car, as opposed to saving up approx. 3500 for the supercharger and doing it all at once and waiting for a week or 2 for the shop to get done with it and tune it.

Unless you can install it yourself!!! Then you can have alot of cash to spend on parts. I say go with gears, subframe connecters, and then a supercharger, There is nothing more intimidating on the street then a supercharger.....

I do my own work on all my vehicles, except for the 1 I had under warranty. Turns out the oil pump shaft had snapped, hence no oil pressure. So I lifted the front of the motor and pulled out the oil pump. It's a high volume pump, and I'm guessing when he got on it once, it sucked up all the oil out of the oil pan and locked the pump up. He said once it started tapping he pulled over and turned it off.

So, with the pump and twizzler shaft removed, should I put it all back together with new parts and start it up to see if the lifter tap will go away? or should I take the time to remove the top end to check them manually?

Ha, a fellow Virginian. Good thoughts, I was aiming more towards the naturally aspirated anyways. Some things I will look into.

I used to sound like that. Now I have a turbo on the way as I type.

I would make sure that nothing is wrong with it first and once that's out the way I say go crazy.

Gears
sfc
exhaust
h/c/i combo (with all the goodies: injs, tb, pump, etc)
Suspension (drag, road, street)
brakes
and then the looks

I personally would work on the inside of the car before touching the outside (paint, rims, whatever). You will have a very nice running car and save a lot of money on the labor doing it yourself.

I love forced induction and all, have had 4 cars with it, turbo and supercharged. I've just heard it's VERY expensive to turbo/SC a motor that came N/A.

Like I said, she only has 6k on the motor, and if everything is still good after the oil pump dieing, I guess I'll look into modding it. If something does turn out to be bad, well, money goes to that. The guy I got it from said that it never got to knocking, he noticed a slight tap, looked at oil guage, and pulled over immediately. Only thing I'm questioning is how I'm going to put this new oil pan gasket on when scraping the old one off is going to be a pain in the ass. I took the pump out with the oil pan/motor still in the car, I can only get about 4-6 inches between the pan and the block. But I guess it can be done.

Approximately, considering the weight of this car, how much HP/TQ do you need to have in order to break the 13's? I'm not looking for a super fast drag car, just something to have fun with at the track.

Is it me or is there this how do i get 300hp question at least 10 times a day

There more than likely is, as there is with any auto forums. Thing is, that's not all I'm asking about. I'm new to the Mustang, and have a few things to learn, and yes I am doing a lot of reading/searching.

As a "senior member", wouldn't you be more inclined to post something a little more valuable than that? Almost seems as if I'm back on Probetalk.com :)

The search buttons on this and other forums are invaluable. I find that wading through all of the same old questions gets old and threads that are not re-hashes of the same old questions get buried quickly. Welcome to the boards, but do use the search function and save board space for new questions.

I did the h/c/i pretty cheep. I got gt-40p's off an explorer for $400 ecam for $90 95 cobra upper & lower, TB and MAF for $350. That's $940. But then again that was a deal. Cheap 300hp though.

So if I get the gt-40 heads, a decent cam, the cobra intake, tb and MAF, I'd be pretty close to 300 hp? For 1k that doesn't sound too bad.

What kind of gas mileage should I be looking for right now with a rebuilt stock motor?

what are your intentions with the car: drag car or daily driver....I would sell all of the parts that you won't be using first and also fix anything that doesn't work...do the basics first: exhaust, k&n air filter, gears, etc. good luck in your decision
