Thinking about a Vortech...what do I need?

Well usually the kits come with a bigger fuel pump, so you should be good there. They also come with an FMU, which is really just a cheap (and sometimes dangerous way) to add more fuel with the stock injectors. I think 95% of the guys you ask will tell you to get bigger injectors/MAF and get a custom tune. Other than that you should be good to go. Let us know how it turns out. :nice:

Bolt the kit on and dyno tune it. IMO the dyno tune is the biggest thing needed with a blower install. An FMU works just fine, dont let anyone tell you different. Those big injectors can sometimes cause a lot of driveability issues if you are using the car everyday.

Dial back a good bit of spark at first until you undestand how things work with the new combo.

You'll need to close the plug gaps down to about .035 to help with high rpm spark blow out.

If that don't work too good, you'll have to get a msd ignition.

I'd put a 255lph intank fuel pump on the car.

Boost & fuel pressure gauge.

LIke others have said, I'd go with 42# inj's and a custom tune.

Good luck!

Most guys (me included) wanna do so many things at the same time as the Vortech...

I agree in this case with the above, because the more you change at one time, the harder it is to pinpoint probs if needed.

If you just get the kit and bolt it on, get a tune (or tuning device even better), you can drive it awhile and see how it feels..If youre happy, keep it, if not, start doing small things at a time.

-Upgrade TB, INtake and MAM
-eliminate the FMU, upgrade the fuel system/injectors, and have the appropriate MAM calibration.

-etc.

But for now, if you really want the Vortech, get it, put her on and drive her!!!

I think RC makes a lotta sense and he speaks from experience.

That is why the larger inj's & tune was at the bottom of my list.

Thanks guys, a lotta good information there :D ...Im definately going to buy the kit, I just wasnt sure if I wanted to spend the extra money that I dont really have right away on things like injectors and MAF...

I think Fuel should be one of the major items to upgrade when SCing a car. I've had my car tuned by three tuners, and all have said they hate tuning cars with FMU's because they are not efficient. Who's to say this guy doesn't want to open it up every once in awhile, lack of fuel=leaning out, and that is when you have major problems. If you are going to build something do it right the first time, or you will end up paying more later. I say get the tuner kits a lot of vendors are selling, then use the extra money to get a 255 in tank, a set of 42lb injectors, matching Air meter, and a custom tune. you should be able to find a set of used injectors pretty cheap. hope this helped.

You can add a 255 intake to the kit WITHOUT affecting much else. You will still have the ability to "supply" the fuel. The FMU will just help "keep it there" if you dont get the bigger injectors up front.

I did all my stuff at once because I had a shop that gave me a fixed price to do all the work at the same time.
