Sunroof Leaking Goodness

I own a 90 LX 5.0 hatchback with a sweet pivoting sunroof that leaks. Ive removed the sunroof, along with most of the ceiling, and fixed the hoses that connect on the four corners, but it still leaks from where the sunroof connects to the body. On the inside the water comes from the two yellow plastic pieces. I'm guessing that I'll have to replace the two pieces that connect the sunroof to the pivots b/c theyre rusted through.
My biggest question is the name of the connection and where could I get one, or if there could be something I've missed or need to know about fixin the problem.

Thanks for any help yall

Sounds like the factory sunroof.

I know what yellow peices you are talking about. DOn't know the name though. Try sealing them with silicone.

With a little maintainence the Factory sunroof can be leak free. It's just fixing someone's lack of maintainence than sucks

I'm pretty sure most of the pieces are discontinued. I thought I had the metal hooks/tabs on order from Ford, but they called me back and returned my money when they figured out they were not obtainable. I would guess the same for the plastic slots you are talking about. I agree on the silicone. I eventually got tabs at the junkyard, and will be giving them a POR15 treatment to ward off another case of rust. The real problem parts look to be the plastic latch pieces -- every car in the junkyard (more than a dozen I saw) were picked clean of those parts. Start scavenging them now if you plan to keep your car.

Oh -- and expect to pay about $200 for the two gaskets/seals you need.

I would say you should be able to get any discontinued parts from Greens, they still have OEM Parts for Ford from the 1950s!

Silicone floats

Hey guys thanks for all the help, it looks like I'll be goin out and getting some silicone to try patching up the ceiling today.
I'll see how it works and if any more leaks I'll probably be scrounging the junkyard for some new seals......
Thanks again everyone

If you're going to be unscrewing those 2 latch bolts, make sure you loosen the allen screws first or you may end up shattering the glass.

Once up loosen those 2 allen keys, the bolts unscrew real easy. Really, it's the allen screws which keep the bolts and latch tight as the bolts screw into the metal plate on the outside of the sunroof are loose fitting.

Take it all apart, run a nice bead of sylicon around the outside of the holes and put everything back together.

As for the yellow plastic tabs where the front 2 hinges sit in, I have a magazine that mentions how to fix these things. It would help if you have your headliner off so you can check out both sides of the roof. Basically, the magazine article mentions that the 2 bolts must be removed, the cup/slot removed, the spot thouroughly cleaned, and new butyl and sylicon sealer used to re-seal the spot, and retighten the bolts.

It could be the plastic cups are cracked and that's why your roof is leaking also.
