Ok here's the deal, I'm putting a 302 (1974 engine) in my 66 mustang and the flywheel is 164 tooth that came with the engine. The bell housing won't fit around the flywheel it must take a smaller one like the original 289,what should I do? What is the correct flywheel?

Because you are messing with an early 302 (pre 85 or so), you are in luck and can swap parts.

If you want to use the 66 flywheel, use it and the bellhousing/backing plate/clutch/ from the 66'.

If you want to upgrade to the 164 tooth flywheel, use the same parts from the 302. Personnally, I would use all the stuff that came with the 302, but the 289 stuff is just fine.

Either course of action will do the job. . . . .

I have a 67 and just got done putting a 351w in it. 289/302/351w are the pretty much the same except the deck height on the 351 is about 2 inches taller. You most likley will need a 157 tooth flywheel. I'm not sure on the ounces mabey 28 but you just need to research the flywheel trough tech guys at tci or any motor builder familiar w/ fords.
