Cobra intake to buy or not

the cobra is a great street intake. if you can get one cheap, go for it! you need to upgrade your tb though. 58mm are a bottle neck even on stk 86's. 65mm seems to be what most people use. oh, if you care. you can use your 58,or 60,or 65 or 70mm. without mods.. 75 you will need to bore out the opening somewhat.

I have a stock 86 gt 5spd and i am trying to decide to buy a cobra intake. i can get one shipped for 265 dollars just needs a little cleaning. would that really be worth it with my stock engine and e6 heads. i plan on swapping heads to a set of e7's or trick flow's later on down the line. also what size throttle body is required for the cobra intake? right now i have the stock 58mm i believe and i wanted to go ahead and upgrade to the 65mm but i heard somewhere the cobra intake only took 70mm throttle body's. thanks, bryan

Go for it! It's hard to find a better deal on intakes, and the cobra makes great power and torque on a daily driver (see 5.0 Mustang's intake shootout). Even if you don't use it right away you can save it and put it on with some new heads and cam. On the Cobra intake, the TB opening is 70mm, but the 93 cobra used a 65mm TB. And as you said cobras can be ported as big as you want. That being said, if you plan on stroking later down the road you might want to get an intake that would work better with the increased displacement, but you'll lose a bit of low end until you stroke the motor.
