Is this a Droneless Exhaust Setup?

Hi All. I'm looking to upgrade my exhaust to either a Magnaflow Catted X or a Bassani Catted X.

I also want a 2.25 inch catback exhaust system. Is the only one that size the stock setup?

Basically, I want good flow and no interior drone. I'm talking stock-like interior drone, which again, is none.

I'm thinking either a custom cat back setup with Dynamax Super Turbos since they are 3 chambered mufflers, or the stock cat back. I have also heard Spintech street mufflers are droneless as well, but I would need more information on that before I made up my mind on it.

I will probably go Magnaflow Catted X for the midpipe for price reasons, as Bassani/Borla are very expensive. The Magnaflow is great quality though, so I think I would be happy with it. As long as it doesn't hang down much after installation! I'm getting the car lowered soon and I drive on questionable roads sometimes with crap that gets in the way occasionally.

I'm leaning towards Magnaflow Catted X for the midpipe and either the stock cat-back or a custom Dynamax Super Turbo cat back, since I can't locate a Dynomax cat-back system anywhere online for an '03 GT that uses super-turbo mufflers.

If anyone could help me make a decision based on experience with droneless systems and setups, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I really dunno much about what drone sounds like, from my knowledge its around 2k and its just a steady noise that isn't pleasing. I've been told I don't have it which if that's true I'd say its cuz of the Steeda cat-back. Ever think about going that route since they describe it as "no drone"?

I had a stock system with dynomax super turbo mufflers on my 97 interceptor vic. I would not even know that it is suppossedly the same style as my Flowmaster 40's because there was NO drone at all. It sounded like a stock Mustang GT. Kinda quiet but just a little meaty. I was wondering if anyone around here has just done the X with a stock catback. I was thinking it might yield the best results as far as sound and performance.

I just installed some Dynomax super turbos on today and it sounds pretty much like stock all the way up to 3,500 rpm, it really opens up after that. There is a very very tiny drone at around 2,000, but if that bothers you then you probably shouldn't be looking at any aftermarket exhaust system. The only odd thing about these mufflers is after I get on WOT a few times, there seems to be excess gas smell.. does anyone know if this is normal right after you install new mufflers?

FRPP 2.5" w/ a Magnaflow Catted X - quiet, droneless setup?

I did not know that Steeda were considered droneless. That's good news, as they look to be a good quality cat back.

I would get the Ford Racing catback, but I can't seem to find one online anymore (at least from my usual online haunts) for a 99-04 GT. I can find the Cobra catback though. I think the Ford one would be the one I would go with if I could just find it. I think it, coupled with a Magnaflow catted X would sound pretty nice and be droneless. Any confirmations on that?

Is drone the bassy sound that is heard inside of the car? I'm not sure what drone is exactly, but I did love the way my car sounded with a Bassani O/R X with Flowmasters.

Just my 2¢. Now I'm broke :(

Yes, it's that resounding, dull, resonance you hear inside the cabin.... If you have ever stuck your head in a subwoofer box or tube while playing a low frequency tone, you will know what it is.

Additionally, the lower you slouch in the car, the more prominent the sound. So, those slammed rides out there actually get a tad more resonance because of the acoustic flow from the exhaust notes bouncing up from the road in a stronger volume.

I have wondered the same thing.

I've wondered the same thing. I shouldn't have been an idiot and let the shop keep my stock cat back. :( It's pretty much non-existant now. I'd put it back on a new Magnaflow X.

I could get a stock catback off ebay for around $200 shipped. I'd rather get the FRPP catback if possible, just as long as it is droneless! I don't want any surprises once it is installed. I'd hate to waste money on something that was supposed to be droneless and ended up droning. :fuss:

Weird!

Huh. Never thought of that. But you know, when I sit up straight, I did notice the drone was less. Go figure!

i had Magnaflow and prochamber and ZERO drone. i now have Magnaflow side exhaust kit with ProChamber, and still ZERO drone.

Wow, I'm surprised. Are your magnaflows welded in, or is it the whole 2.5" cat back? When I had Magnaflows welded in, they were a lot quieter than when I put the whole 2.5" cat back on.

I think I'd like to go the FRPP cat back route. Where can I find one? Partshopper and Mustang Tuning didn't have one the last time I looked (last night). Any other recommendations for getting it as cheaply as possible?

Thanks!

no mine was whole catback. Zero drone with OEM H pipe, and Zero drone with prochamber. I did have slight drone with BBK o/R X, but i think BBK was POS anyhow. Magnaflow is very nice, and well made system. I'd recemmond it to anybody. Infact, i'm going to tell you that mine is for sale. if interested, PM me

Ha ha, thanks. I already have a magnaflow system. My sig says Flowmaster 40's because they are clamped into my Magnaflow tubing. I had the whole Magnaflow system though originally. Quite a drone with a Mustang Tuning catted X pipe and the whole Magnaflow cat back. I don't know what the deal with that is, and it surprised me, because when I had the stock H and welded in Magnaflows it was barely louder than stock. Looking back, that's exactly how I want it to be again, but oh well. I don't have my stock H pipe (some moron stole it!) nor do I have my stock cat back.

Anyone find that FRPP cat back for a 99-04 GT yet? :D
