If I change gears, I have to buy a programmer to correct the speedo?

The dealer told my he got a build date for my 06. It should be around mid august. If everything goes well I should have it mid sept? So planning in advance I finally decided to go with the Magnaflow magnapacs, a K&N CAI and I would like 4:10's. I do not want a tune because I don't want to deal with the chance of issues at the dealership. The CAI is easy to take off if something happens, and the mufflers are a non issue. That being said, I want gears also, but would like to have a correct speedo. Do I have to spend 400 dollars for a tuner just to recalibrate for the change? I don't even have my car yet and already miss how easy it was to mod my 93 LX. I figure that The three above mentioned mods would keep me good untill the warrenty was up, then beef up the motor and slap 14lbs of boost on it. Wife already told me this is the last car I can get for a long time, so I have to have something to look forward to in a few years.

I'm not certain, but you might get away with using a "speedcal".

They are for sale in many of the Mustang mags for around $100.

I understand your concerns about the tuner, but I'll bet the CAI you intend to install will mess up the MAF enough to need one.

I went with an Xcalibrator, that saves the factory tune, so if I ever need to go back to the dealership it will have the factory settings if they look. The tuner not only can give you about 20 more HP, but make the speedo calibration a breeze. Wheel and tire size changes too!

My advice.... bite the bullet and get one... then enjoy it!

YES you will HAVE to get it reflashed. my dealer offered to do just speedo reflash, but it would be 1hr labor @ 80$/hr, so i said ***** it! and put that money toward a predator...best choice i could of made!

Get a tuner, you'll need one in the long run to check codes, clear the CEL, add tunes, adjust for tire size, adjust for gears, change when cooling fan comes on, shift points for automatic, rev limiter, etc, etc.

You can't run the cold air on an 05 without a tune to correct for it. You really won't be able to much other than an axle back exhaust without a tuner.

We use the SCT Xcal2 and the Diablo Predators. Both store your stock tune, so you can restore the PCM back to stock at any time, like if you need to go back to the dealer. We can set you up with a custom tune, set for the cold air and the gears.

I thought the K&N did not need a tune? people on this website claim to own it and it works fine. Other people claim that installing the K&N with a tuner are having issues with pinging. Since there is not a program yet for the K&N you would have to spend additional money for a custom tune at a dyno shop costinig even more money.
