For the last couple of months my car has been has been have very minor surges in the RPMs at idle, and when I turn on my A/C it really surges. My check engine light come on when I'm cruising at one speed for an extended period of time, (i.e. highway driving) and then will shut of when cruising around the city. So I can never seem to get a chance to get the codes read because the light does not stay on long enough. Furthermore I'm looking into selling the car this weekend and would really like to get this problem resolved before then if possible, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Did you have the A/C recharged? It is possible that it was overcharged. Im having the same problem (minus the check engine light) because I put a can of R134A in my protege, but there is too much in the system. I have not had the chance to drain the system yet though.

Do you have a scanner yourself? I guess if you have you have already tried, but the DTC's might still be there if you havent tried scanning for codes.

more than likely its you air idle control, try unplugging it while its running if it makes no differance thats probably it, the idle should change if it is good, thier around 80 dollars from ford.

So I should unplug it when the car is on and the A/C is running and if still is surging then that is my problem?
