351W into a 68 - How easy/hard?

  • Sponsors (?)

look for possible hood clearance issues if you have a dual-plane intake and a carb spacer. The 351W is taller than the 302.

For that reason, some ppl have had fulllength headers ( if reusing their 302 headers) pulled up against the bottom of the car, since the exhaust ports are higher up now...

The brackets and pulley setup is different, so get all the frt. dress. You may need a different radiator and hoses. It is an easy swap, but can nickel and dime you if you don't get all of the accessories.

as the others said, this is an easy swap. you dont even need headers as the stock manifolds will fit. hood clearance can be a problem with this swap, but stick with nothing taller than a performer rpm intake, and use a drop over air cleaner and you should clear the hood. you can use the 289 water pump if you want to keep the stock hoses and rad, otherwise upgrade to a 3 core rad with the lower outlet moved over to the drivers side. over all this swap is no big deal, but the details need attending.

Great, thanks for the info everyone. My buddy dropped it off today, I got it for $500 Cdn. It has been completely rebuilt and is in a crate wrapped in plastic. The company he works for had an automotive division that went out of business so they are having a firesale on all of their stock. Now if I can only get started on the rest of the car...
