Just picked up my new GT convertible two weeks ago. The motor in the top went bad after one week! Dealership replaced it and the replacement went bad before I could get it from the shop. They say the problem is with the manufacturer of the vert motors...so for now I am not to use the top. No word on when a new motor will be available but they make it sound like a recall on all the top motors is pending. Anyone else out there have the same issue? Any suggestions on how to get this resolved?

they actually told you that you can't use the top, and the problem is with the manufacturer of the top motor?

I'd tell them that (1) it is not your concern whose fault it is (2) that you don't care whose fault it is (3) that they had better fix it (4) and that you paid good money for a convertible.

Then I'd let them know since they are forcing you to now have a coupe (rather than a convertible--no putting down the top), that you'd like to talk to them about refunding some of the money you paid for the car--like every cent over the cost of a comparable coupe.

It's drastic, but the dealer sounds like they are jsut taking the easy way out. One motor going bad can happen...but the new one going bad right away sounds like an installation screw-up to me, and now they are just covering their bases.

I haven't seen any mentions of top problems on any board. The problems with the 2005's (gas tank, strut popping, radio skipping) are all very well known here, and were known long before most of us even got their cars!! I think if it was going to be a recall, we'd see a lot more talking about it here.

I smell dealer BS. Find a new dealer.

I thought the same thing but they showed me a letter from the manufacturer where they say that problems are beginning to appear with some of their motors and that they are looking into a resolution.

When the first motor blew I had the top 1/2 way down...no way to put it back up or all the way down. Dealer said they'd put another motor in for me but they are not sure that won't happen to me again.

Since it appears I'm the only one facing this issue...I guess I just have a third motor put in and hope for the best.

There seems to be a problem with the top motors, here is what Ford is saying about the part.

1 FILL EM-ORDS FROM: SUPPLIER / PACKAGER UPON RECEIPT
2 CAUSAL DESCRIPTN1: UNANTICIPATED DEMAND
3 CAUSAL DESCRIPTN2: QUALITY HOLD
4 70105 SUPLR SHP 72 PCS TO V366C 7/1-COMPLETE SETS (B/O'S +6WKS) SC
5 70105 ENG'R TO OBS SET & REPL BY 2 SER PTS-IR MAT WILL BE REMRKD
6 70105 TO NEW LEVEL WHEN CREATED
7 70105 TO NEW LEVEL WHEN CREATED-WILL RELEASE HYDRAULIC NEW PT WHEN
8 70105 NEW NBR AVAIL SC

Looks like there was a quality issue and an unanticipated demand for replacements (failures) and Ford got caught behind the 8 ball. Bet it's at least month before this gets straightened out.

Never a problem with my GT vert top - built in February. Maybe there was just like one bad batch of motors? I remember one other thread where a guy's motor went bad - but nothing widespread.
