Wish me luck guys, started on my H/C/I project

Well everything is going great. The cam came right out to the left of the pony. The new one went in like a breeze. I got them timed, and put the timing cover back on, I'm putting the balancer on right now. I figure I'll have the heads on by tonight at least. It's not taking as long as I thought. Thanks everyone!!

Okay, problem, I'm putting my new heads on. I need to get the alternator/smog pump bracket off the old head, and I have all the bolts out, but it looks like it's being held on by something behind the tensioner. Does the star bolt that runs through the tensioner hold the bracket to the head?

UPDATE: Freaking A!! These headers are being a PITA. I got the driver side on, and am about to start on the passenger side. Headers are torqued down, but I still gotta set the lash on the rockers. Still gotta mount the p/s bracket, then put in the radiator and fan. Then on goes the valve covers then from there the rest of the top-end. Doesn't look like I'll be finishing tonight. :( Oh well. Anybody know what size belt I'm gonna need now that I have no smog pump?

Good luck on the H/C/I swap, i just got all my bugs finally worked out! I didn't disconnect my fuel rails all the way, we just kind of let them lie to the side because we didn't have the tool, and we were lazy to go and get it. I heard you are getting help from "18mustangs", watch out for that guy :D Just kidding, i hope you two don't have many problems and have fun :nice:

I take it you know Tim? He did really help me out though, he had the 3/8" spacer I needed.

Well I did get everything back together last night, and she fired up. But I needed to get a new MAF still, so I drove up to 50resto this morning and bought a C&L (I know I know, it's only temporary hopefully) and she's running pretty good now. The idle is insane!! I still need to get a tune (obviously) but she runs, only without power steering it's hard to drive.

Yeah i know Tim, he's my brother. About a year ago i saw one of your posts and asked you if you knew him but he was in Iraq so you hadn't met him yet. I have a C&L MAF. When i first bought it from my friend it had the sample tube for a 94 cobra and my car ran really rich, but now i have the correct one in and it fixed the problem. My car runs great with the C&L! I hope yours does also,

Oh yea!!! I remember that now. All this time I was thinking you were talking about another Tim. Cool. Yea the car runs pretty good with the C&L. The idle really sucks, but it's trying to idle at 650 still. A friend of mine that has the same cam as me says stock idle (650) is way to low for it. He said he set his about 900 and that it idles great. I'm gonna reset the idle tomorrow when I hook the power steering back up. :nice:

Yeah put the idle between 850 and 900. What cam do you have? Peace

It should be three bolts that hold that bracket to the heads. It sounds as if you only removed 2 bolts. Peace

A little late now. :p There was another bolt behind the tensioner that I didn't see at first.

Since this thread has been revived, I might as well update yall on the progress. My balancer is on it's way out, I was planning on getting a PP balancer from 50resto. Well my power steering pulley got bent trying to remove it, so I got a new pump, and ordered a pulley from ford. They said it would be in today, it wasn't. Guess what? 50resto has it. They're only an hour away from me, and my boss said I could go get the stuff when he gets in around 2 this afternoon. I got my new pump put on this morning, and set the idle to around 1000 or so. As long as I can get that pulley on this afternoon, I should be driving it tonight. Now I just gotta find where that fluid is coming from. I don't think it's oil, but I'm not sure. :(

Yeah that was the Tim i was talking about :nice: That's good it runs well with the C&l meter! I have the TFS stage one and mine idles at about 1,000 rpm so i am trying to get mine to idle lower.

TFS Stage 1

Well it ran good from what I could tell without driving it. I drove it today and it ran like crap, but I'm pretty sure I got the rockers to tight. I set them to a little past zero lash, then put another 1/2 to 3/4 turn on them. I think I went to far. A friend of mine said he tightened his down like that, and it ran like crap cus the valves weren't closing properly. Gonna redo them tomorrow. A couple people have mentioned I might have blown a HG, but the majority of people I've asked have said that shouldn't be my problem. So I'll see tomorrow.

When you set your idle, do you just adjust the stop screw that the throttle bracket rests on? I tried adjusting that, and the idle went up to 900 or so, but when I started it back up it was back at 700 or so. I tried doing it with the IAC unplugged, but it wouldn't start. Although that might be because of my other issues. So basically, is it the screw on the side of the throttle body that the bracket rests against? Or is it a different one?

It took me a couple of tries to get my rockers adjusted properly, i wish i had got pedastal mount instead :notnice: But oh well they are good to go now. Are you talking about the big bolt that holds the bracket to the EGR spacer? I know i have to loosen mine up because it is too tight and holding my throttle open a little, but when i try to adjust the idle i use the screw that is on the backside of the thottle body ( the firewall side). I don't know if that answers your question? I am still have problems gettting mine to idle where i want it.

My B cam idles at 650 rpm too, of course it sounds pretty damn good down there and I've no driveability problems.

:stupid: I'd like to have mine idle a bit higher as well. Did you get the URL for the Oil filler cap I sent you?

 no i didnt. did you PM me with it? Right now I have bigger problems. I only have 135psi of compression when the rockers are tightened. I can back them off until I have 170 or so, but then they are too loose.

Yeah i did, then i had to figure out where to get it. I just looked in jegs and found the same cap and bought it. I also got a chrome motorsport license plate holder
