Removing foglight lenses?

What is the easiest way to remove the lens on a 94-98 foglight? I am desperate to get mine off and clean all the crap out of them and see if I can clear them back up somewhat..I would really appreciate it if someone can help! :hail2:

You need to get under the car. There is one nut that holds the whole assembly on. But it will be hard to clean them because the only access is through the hole where the bulb mounts. You may be able to seperate the lens from the housing but I didn't try. Be careful with the bulb too. If you touch it the oils from your fingers could cause it to blow. Use a rag or paper towel to handle it.

I remember on my '95 there being three bolts holding the fog light bracket onto the back of the (steel) bumper.

If you turn the front wheels all the way, there is enough room to get in there and take the bolts out.

well I figure if you can order a replacement lens only you should be able to fully remove the old lens..maybe via snaps or something?

Were can you order just a replacement lens?

I have never seen anyone selling just lens, including Ford. Only the entire fog lamp assembly (PN's F4ZZ-15200-A and F4ZZ-15200-B).

i think 50resto has them also. I swithched the whole assembly out for the ones with clear to match my clear cobra headlights. Big improvement in looks and lighting.

You said it..thats exactly where I foudn them..I never could get mine off last night so I removed the entire thing and soaked them in bleach..alittle cleaner but not as good as I had hoped..

i tried cleaning mine as well, i used a baby bottle cleaner to get inside and scrub but that didn't do much! So i just gave in and ordered the new ones.

Hmmm...mine only has one. Pretty easy to remove.

Yea, cleaning them isn't much good.

Any advice on removing the brackets and getting the old housings out?

I got those (or something very close). They are full housings though, and not just lens.

It wasn't easy to remove the brackets on 99-04 models. Much, much more difficult than the ones on my old 95. :(

Once one manages to get the brackets out, removing the housings from the bracket isn't easy either. I was trying to pry real gentle, and taking my time, but I still ended up braking off the round pivot tabs from the old housings. There is a bevel on the end of the round pivot tabs which helps with inserting the new ones, but does nothing for removing the old ones.

I was contemplating just letting the shop do mine when I have it in for a free oil change they gave me. Just to save some time on what could prove to be a huge pain in the ass. Probably a snap for them.

Not to hijack this thread, but since we are on the topic.... I am missing the drivers side socket. After looking at the wires, it looks as though someone cut them and took the socket&bulb. Will I have to order the whole $200 Ford fog light kit in order to fix this?

Do you mean they took the actual housing, lens and all, or just the bulb? If they just took the bulb, you could order just that and re-terminate the wires.

On a side note, the housings I ordered from mustang tuning came with brackets too! Not a bad deal for $79.00. Anyway, does anyone know where I could get the silicon stuff to put around the lense to seal it, just in case?
