i got a 83 gt with 408 motor,i just got a power brake delete kit. got it installed bled, problem is i seem to have to stand on the pedal ,and it does not want to stop quick.i'am using same master cylinder, and pro.vavle..what is the deal..i want to go run car ,but afraid it wont stop me in time....my super victor intake did not have a port for power brake vac hose.carb is a speed demon it does not have a any ports on it.so i had convert it......should i just drill my intake for fitting and get vac. can , and go back with power brakes? i got 11 in. rotors in front and drums in rear..

The problem is the angle at which the actuator rod from the brake pedal is to the master cylinder. The angle and location of the rod is optimized for power brakes. When you change to manual brakes, you need to modify that rod. If I remember correctly, there are two spots on the brake pedal to which you can connect the rod. Move it up to the top one, and then flip the rod upside down to give you the proper angle into the master cylinder. This will give you twice as much leverage and will help a whole bunch. :nice: Hope this helps.

thanks will check out.. also i got it from asp came with plate and new rod ,they said that i could use same master cylinder.??,i noticed that the rod is bent that they sent. the power brakes booster one was straight but cant remove from booster. i notived also that my connecter to my brake light switch hangs up.i got unplugged right now. maybe to does have a hole higher up...? that way the switch would not hang up maybe..it seems if i'am stepping on a brick.!

You said a speed demon carb right. My buddy has one on his car and he has power brakes.

If u must hook brakes to a vac tree and use this to run a smaller line to carb.
yes got demon 1000 cfm no vac ports of any kind on it..either does intake.i got a 1 inch spacer with fitting on it ,,but don't hace the extra room under hood , even with 4in. cowl hood.i can't even run an air cleaner. super victor intake is tall.i got 1/2 inch nitrous plate also on it.

Yeah, I plan on converting to manual brakes too. Just to save weight and clean up the engine bay. Also because when running a big cam the power brakes can be real inconsistant.

i will be glad to sell you my brand new covn. kit..plate and rod...

I rand the ASP kit and had marginal results with the stock brake system and master cylinder. I had to really stand on it to get it to slow down from 130mph traps.

I went to a www.skinnykidracecars.com set-up and will never look back, it is re-engineered as far as the brake rod goes, fully adjustable and comes with the duel port large valve mastercylinder which is needed with a manual brake set-up.

A swap to a different master cylinder like a 1-3/16" STRANGE, AEROSPACE or DODGE will help you a lot.

Thats why they make vaccuum cannisters, for big cams and power brakes. I dont think ill have any probs with power brakes, 234/244 @.050 112 LSA, not too bad of an idle.
my carb as no vac big or small...i just added 1 inch spacer plate drilled it for power brake hose..its getting sort of close to my hood now ,,i couldnt run air cleaner before... also my cam is 262/274 at .050 .112. will i can work with that setup.? thats what i'am doing now

That cam should pull OK vaccum, can you get a vac reading to see how many inches it pulls?

The ASP can be modified to allow the larger bore master cylinder. I did the same thing and started with the ASP bracket, then I bought the SKRC kit when I decided to build it for the NMRA D/R class and 170mph traps. It also comes with a electric pressure switch for your brakes, no more switch on the pedal needed.

thanks rick!you ran into the same probelm i did the the switch not hooking up ,hitting steering wheel brk. i'am going with the power booster again..kind of idles up higher now too , with the locked out dist.very snappy now. cause with the manual brakes i would have to run the 1/8 mile ,,and a 1/8 mile to stop.
