Hey im new.... just got a new 05 2 weeks ago...few questions.

Hey yall, whats up? I just got a brand new 05 screamin yellow 5 speed V6 with FR500 wheels, just got a cowl hood and pins, and a street scene body kit....now im use to alot of power, and there werent any 5 spd V8's available, so i got a V6 5 spd to hold me over for now till my shelby comes in.

Im use to driving my corvette, and i like cars with pep. so i have af ew questions ( im planning on eventually swapping in a 4.6 or a strokked 4.6) I know there will be tuning complications which i already know about, but im not real familiar with these new platforms. I work on older cars. ( i have a 70 fastback, and a 90 vette)

I was told the 6 and 8 use same 5 speed trans....correct or no?

If yes, then do they have the same rear? or does the 8 have an 8.8 and 6 7.5?

also any suspension deifferences, except sway bars and springs? (EI: different control arms, panhard bars in rear) etc)

and are these cars basically wired the same like all enw cars are ( as in, they are wired for every option, just every option isnt used in the harness unless the vehicle has that specific option) meaning if i get the 4.6 with a harness complete, i could just swap it directly, and all my internal (pass compartment) functions still work? or do i have to find an ecm/harness assy. that only has what options my car has?

sorry for all the questions - Roger

Bad idea, it would have been cheaper to buy a V8 Mustang up front

You have been mis-informed, the V6 uses a T5, the V8 a T3650

No, V8 has 8.8" limited slip, V6 7.5" open

Springs, shocks and sway bars are all different

Also, the V8 has larger, better brakes and don't forget that the V8 comes with dual exhaust.

Unless you can find a wrecked V8 Mustang, cheap, that has all the parts you need to do the swap, you will be better off selling your V6 and buying a V8.

Im gettn all the parts i need from a totalled GT, i got first dibs on one as soon as it happens ( dealer is hookin it up)
also i have dual exhaust ( aftermarket)

so basically i need to do the drivetrain swap and thts bout it.

are these cars universally wired like Gm cars are? so i can just find any ecm from a Gt with harness and itll still work my interior assesories?

Thanks for the info man.

I do not know about the 2005 Mustang, but I do know that some other Ford models do NOT have universal wiring harnesses.

Glad that you have a line on a wrecked GT, that's the only practical way to pull your V8 swap off.

haha, buddy im no poser, im a professional corvette restoration tech. ive always workedo n my own cars and every car i have is modded, or in worx of being modded. I have a 70 mustang fastback, wich started out as a 302 2bbl car, its now a 431 strokked Fe motor, tko600 5spd, custom 9" rear 389 gears, custom spool, axles, works. a 90 corvette which is in process of gettin a supercharged 355 pushing 22lbs of boost to push about 900 at rears full 12 pt cage, custom cryo'd trans, rearend, whole suspension, DFI fuel injection management, the worx. a 70 chevelle ss which is gettn full air ride on 18" rims,572 fuel injected motor, 5 spd and 9" rear, custom paint on all three ofthese cars. and then this V6, which i baught just cause i didnt wanna wait till oct for a GT. i dont like waiting for things, so when they arent available,i improvise.... i was just askin these questions to make life a little easier insteado f havin to find them out as i go, i like to plan first. plus with a totalled car commin it'll be real cheap.

I understand your impatience for the Shelby and needing something in the meantime. But dude you are one lazy buyer if you could not find a 5speed GT. I scoured this country for a very specific GT (Black, red interior, Bullitt wheels, Auto) Those were my guidlines and I found the car in Texas...drove halfway across the nation and bought it. I came across at lease 30 5 Speed GT's on the East coast alone. Where the hell are you? As for the V6...that's one hell of a project you got lined up..I think you should sell it and pick up a GT..I know various 05's on the lot all over the nation for sticker...pm me if you're interested.

furgot to mention one other thing as to how this works out for me too by gettn a V6..... my insurance company wont take me on a V8 b/c of my age, i have to use a completely different insurance company for my corvette, and i pay over 1000/ 6 months for LIABILITY. so if its registered as a 6, and then a V8 is swapped in, lower insurance...keep the 6 incase it gets wrecked, swap the motor and its all good ( theoreticlaly)

and i live in frederick county MD. Finding a GT wasnt hard, ive seen alot, just none are stick shift, all were autos. that was my problem. and i wasnt too fond of goin all over gods creation to get a car, i got the 70 i have from AZ, the 70 chevelle from IL, my vette from Fairfax Va ( not tht far, but it was raining and night time) and i got my Monte Carlo from Bristol PA..... took easy route this time. i guess...haha Plus ill be saving money overall once im done if thisall pans out the way it needs to.

Except that if your insurance co. finds out they can cancil your insurance or refuse to pay if you're in an accident.

How would the insurance company find out? LOL!! Your trying to find any excuse to ruin this guys plans... LOL!! This is ridiculous.. Just accept the fact that he wants to convert a 6 to an 8.. Once you do this, it will be easier to post things which will help him in his journey.. LOL!! Jesus Christ, is it really this difficult to just answer a few questions for the guy, who seems to know WTF he is doing? LOL!!

FastNYellow

If you want my advice, just keep the six, and slap a blower on it, and you'll smoke GT's all day.. I know where to get them for the 05 V6, so PM me if your serious about doing it.. In case you have not noticed, the V6 Stangs are no joke, and require very little effort to the engine dept, to keep up with GT's.. Like I said, if you want to get blown on the V6 PM me.. I can get it done for less than 3Gs..

Why thank you, i appriciate your comment, lol i mean damn, im just askin questions to do somethin i wanna do, lol it aint their's

Also, all you need from the totaled GT would be the Computer system and harness.. Once you get that, then just order one of these, if you choose to convert to V8..

http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/mustang-crate-engines.shtml

I already inquired about this, and the shop i went to wanted close to 25G's to do the work.. You can most likley perform the swap yourself, and this would save you some change.. So in the end, you have 2 paths in which to take..

1. Get the V6 Blown

2. Rape a GT of its wiring harness and computer system, and go with one of the engines posted in the link..

Keep in mind, my opinion based on info I have gathered thus far, is to just get the V6 blown.. In the extreme scenario, you could just rape the GT of its Tranny, rear-end, and all other desired parts.. But the motor you have has enough displacement to do some extreme things..

Also, the blower I am talking about is a Roots type Eaton blower, which delivers gobbs of low end torque.. Looky here.. Here is a shot of the Intake Manifold..

Here are shots of your V6 engine Blown! SOHC Ford 4.0 V6

So as you can see my new friend, fear in the V6 is not for the V6 Owners, its for the GT owners.. Now why pump out a GT, when everyone and their grandmother has one.. You guys will all be the same.. But to own a Blown 2005 V6 Mustang, would put fear into the most brave of GT owners.. Dont get me wrong, the GT is Badass.. But who will argue that a Blown V6 is not better.. (In Concept)

Also, if your insurance agency were to find out, they would have to still pay the bill.. LOL!!

This is the most idiotic question that I see people ask about the V6 they bought. Why didn't you just buy the V8 in the first place? Do this. Take that money and pay your loan down. Sale your V6 out right to someone after a year or two and then buy a GT. The price difference is $5,000 and no way you can do all the mods for that. Here is a quick list of some of the differences.

It's not the same tranny.
It's not the same suspension system.
It's not the same engine.
It's not even the same hood. The GT hood is more aggresivly slanted.
It's not the same interior.
It's not the same RIMs or tires.
It's not the same millions of little details that are added to a GT.

Your right.. The best value dollar for dollar is the GT.. But for those who have changed their mind after the paperwork was signed, you still have other options.. But, of course, the GT is the outright best bang for the buck.. No one is denying that at all.. Senior peonslayer!! (Must be said with a Heavy Spanish accent)!

sorry for askin a *****in question. jesus christ, its not idiotic, and whats different about the suspension besides springs, the rearend, and sway bars? I dont crqe about rims, i alrdy have aftermarkets, i have Fr500 rims in full chrome. dont care about hood i have a steeda cowl hood, dont care bout interior, i like my interior. I havent seen the interior i have on any of the V6's ive seen....yet

and it wasnt a 5,000$ difference for my car to a GT, i paid 20K for my car, then another 2800 in rims and tires and exhaust, then another 1800 for the body kit and cowl hood.

Sounds really hot.. Put up some pics!! I wanna see what kit you got, and how the wheels knock off on it!! :nice:

I already answered most of his questions. :bang:

Read the fine print of your policy. If you do anything to add HP without telling them, you've voided your policy. But as you know they won't know, unless you get in an accident, that is.
