Whinning noise

I've noticed for a while that I've got a very faint whinning sound in my engine. The more throttle I give it, the more high-pitch the sound gets. It's been doing this since I cleaned the engine for the first time. I swear it sounds like its coming from the alternator, but i could be wrong. Anyone have any idea what it might be. I don't think it's anything serious because my car is still running top notch.

EDIT: By the way, when I say faint I mean FAINT, most people don't even hear it until I point it out to them. I guess I only noticed it because it's my car.

Yea its SOMETHING that the belt is connected to. I can tell that much. Im thinking either the compressor or alternator. Either way I don't think I have a problem. Oh and its defininately not loud enough for anyone to think I have a s/c. Like I said, most people don't even notice it, it's just annoying to me because I hate when my car makes ANY sound that isn't completely normal.

I have THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, it is driving me nuts!

What if you

1. Are in neutral.
2. Press the gas while turning the wheel

I wonder if that would put enough strain on the power steering pump to either elimate that or not. Isn't our brake booster tied to the sterring pump as well? Maybe thats why my brakes are going screwey...
