Maybe and nope

my buddy has a 5.0 and has done it a few times. That was at least a year or more ago and still is working fine. But his also never went all the way into gear. It would just pop out on him. But I'm guessing if your lucky it should be alright.

nah probly not.....get a shifter dude, and be carefull, not to scare ya but my friend did that on a 455 olds,it developed a rod knock 2 days later....not to say yours will just giving you what i know, good luck

Just want to understand something,You put it in 3rd at around 90 and it redlined, so why did you put it back in 2nd, did you just learn to drive stick? Most likely nothing is messed up unless it was on redline for a while.

wanted to ask, is the car driving the same?

I think he just missed fourth. Its very hard to say if anything is wrong, you just gotta watch and listen. Sorry :(

i believe what he meant is that he went to shift to 4th but accidentally slammed it into 3rd. ive done it before and my car runs fine still, just dont do it again. i did it on the 3-4 shift (into 2nd) and the rear tires just started to smoke up, scared the hell out of the guy driving next to me on the highway lol

I was trying to put my dads dakota(auto) into neutral one time going about 35 or 40 and accidentally put it in reverse. I put it in neutral as fast as i could but the truck stalled and the rear tires locked up for a second, but everything was fine afterwards.

your lucky, my friend did that in his m3 and destroyed his entire engine.
here's some photos

Did you happen to see what the tach went to when you hit 2nd?

I read a post a while back about somebody who did pretty much the same thing, then a few days/week later they started hearing some rod knock.

Is it under warranty?

All depends how quickly you hit the clutch and got it out of gear... You're forcibly over-revving the engine backwards through the drive train, which in itself isn't bad unless you force it beyond what the rods and valvetrain are capable of handling..which isnt much over 6grand in a stock car.

I did that once except I went into 1st when trying to hit 3rd and the back tires barked before I pushed the clutch in. Scared the hell out of me. Nothing seemed wrong, but I had to get some rear-end work done because of it...I think that was the reason...under warranty at the time. 5-6 years later and engine is fine.

Dude learn how to read I went to slam it into 4th from 3rd and pulled it into 2nd by accedent.. The car drives fine, Doesnt feel or sound different.. And its under warrenty Only 15k on it...

I may be out of line with this comment but, you are aware that your warranty does not cover missed shifts.

Hopefully no damage was done but, keep an eye out for new ticking or pinging type noises.

your fuel would shut off at or a little above redline, I did that once in my 98 cobra, it did not lockup but the fuel shut down and nothing happened to the car. Most of the guys up here do not know **** about a car and give you a hard time, plus when a person asks a question why come off like a ******* and say buy a new one and so on. Some can not read and missed the word accendently missed a shift. Some say "what u just learn how to drive a stick"? WTF I am sure that ******* has missed a shift once in his life. Why be a bunch of *******s when I guy asks a question about his car? I have asked questions about things on my car and I got no responses at all, so I guess that would tell you enough about the technical knoweledge of the people on this fourms(there is none)
