I'm looking at purchasing a 67 fastback and I wanted to check the vin to make sure there wasn't anythign wrong with the car. The data tag on the drivers door is missing, and the vin # on the drivers fender apron can't be read. The vin on the title matches everything on the car (7F02C215403) but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't buying a car that I'm goign to have problems with down the road. I know carfax doesn't check cars older they 81, and I think I remember hearing of something called a Marty's report or something? From what I remember it gives you all the information of the car, options, owners, etc...and it was very thorough.

thanks

If you are certain the VIN is really for that car, contact Marti Auto Works and get a report. The price is about $17. It will tell you when it was built, the dealer it was sold to, and all of the original options. I wish I had done that before I bought my car.

email or write to FORD they keep records back to 67 on all cars they produced. I think they are pretty quick to respond too.
I've never heard anything like this.

The Marti report tells you everything about your car as far as how it was ordered, options, build sheet, window sticker, etc., but nothing about ownership or history after the original sale. There's not much available to you like that. You either have to be able to read the signs of rust or accident repair yourself or find someone who does.
